The Village Community School of Sarasota is seeking a warm, energetic, creative, and mission-aligned Part-Time 7th-8th Grade Middle School Teacher to join our growing Bible-based homeschool co-op community Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9:15am-3:00pm.
As a 7th-8th Grade Middle School Teacher at The Village Community School of Sarasota, you will do more than deliver lessons.
You will help students strengthen academic foundations, rebuild confidence, think critically, ask meaningful questions, persevere through challenges, develop responsibility, and discover the joy of using what they learn.
You will work within a thoughtfully developed curriculum framework while having room to incorporate movement, games, experiments, stories, discussion, nature, creativity, and real-world application.
Primary Responsibilities:
Lead Strong, Engaging Academic Instruction
- Teach grade-appropriate level-based Math, Reading, Writing, and Language Arts using the curriculum and resources provided by VCSS.
- Adapt instruction to meet students at their assessed level of readiness rather than relying solely on age or grade.
- Use hands-on activities, games, experiments, discussion, movement, and practical application to deepen understanding.
- Identify academic gaps, recognize student strengths, and adjust support when appropriate.
- Help students build confidence through genuine competence, progress, and perseverance.
- Provide appropriate at-home reinforcement activities in partnership with VCSS families.
Create A Classroom Where Children Flourish
- Build a Christ-centered, warm, joyful, orderly, and emotionally safe learning environment.
- Establish clear expectations while responding to students with patience, consistency, wisdom, and respect.
- Help each child feel known, valued, challenged, and invited to contribute.
- Protect childhood wonder while teaching responsibility, diligence, and follow-through.
- Encourage students to ask questions, attempt unfamiliar tasks, learn from mistakes, and take increasing ownership of their work.
- Support students with different learning styles, academic levels, personalities, and developmental needs.
Make Learning Active and Meaningful
- Use the full VCSS environment, including classrooms, gardens, outdoor areas, and project spaces, whenever appropriate.
- Connect academic concepts to practical experiences such as measuring, budgeting, gardening, building, cooking, researching, communicating, planning, and problem-solving.
- Collaborate with practical-skills instructors, workshop leaders, and other educators to create a coherent student experience.
- Participate in selected projects, community activities, celebrations, service opportunities, and Village Signature Experiences.
- Maintain strong safety awareness during classroom, outdoor, garden, animal, and hands-on activities.
Support Faith Formation
- Demonstrate a sincere and active Christian faith consistent with the mission of VCSS.
- Integrate biblical truth, prayer, gratitude, stewardship, service, character, and identity in Christ throughout the learning environment.
- Model humility, integrity, patience, wisdom, responsibility, and loving communication.
- Help students understand that knowledge and capability are gifts to be stewarded for the good of others.
- Participate in Village Table Talk, prayer, Scripture conversations, and other faith-forming rhythms as assigned.
Partner With Families And The VCSS Team
- Communicate professionally, warmly, and clearly with parents regarding student growth, concerns, placement, and at-home learning.
- Respect the essential role parents retain in their child’s homeschool education.
- Collaborate with VCSS leadership, fellow teachers, support staff, and expert instructors.
- Maintain accurate student records, progress notes, lesson plans, and other required documentation.
- Participate in staff meetings, planning sessions, training, and school events as required.
- Contribute positively to a team culture that is Christ-centered, safe, thoughtful, respectful, collaborative, and committed to helping children flourish.

Required Qualifications
- Current teaching certification.
- Must be able to pass a background check.
- Demonstrated experience teaching or supporting elementary, middle school and/or high school-aged students.
- Strong classroom leadership and student-engagement skills.
- Ability to teach foundational grade-level-appropriate Math, Reading, Writing, and Language Arts.
- Understanding of child development and developmentally appropriate instruction.
- Ability to differentiate teaching for students working at different levels.
- Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Willingness and physical ability to participate in active, outdoor, and hands-on learning.
- Commitment to maintaining physical, emotional, relational, and instructional safety.
- Ability to pass all required background screening and child-safety requirements.
- Alignment with and willingness to uphold the Biblical mission, values, and educational philosophy of The Village Community School of Sarasota.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Elementary Education, Child Development, or a related field.
- Experience in a homeschool program, micro-school, private school, Christian school, Montessori-inspired setting, outdoor program, or project-based learning environment.
- Experience teaching students in small groups or across multiple academic levels.
- Training or experience in differentiated instruction, literacy intervention, gifted education, special education, or learning support.
- Experience integrating technology, hands-on projects, outdoor learning, or real-world applications into academic instruction.
- Additional interests or experience in gardening, homesteading, entrepreneurship, financial literacy, STEM, mechanics, art, music, cooking, animal care, preparedness, or other practical-skills areas.
