NORTH SMITHFIELD SCHOOL DEPARTMENTJOB DESCRIPTIONPOSITION TITLE: Guidance Counselor - ElementaryReports to: Building Administrator(s)Approved: Superintendent of SchoolsDeveloped/Revised: April 2018REQUIRED EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITY TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: ?At least three years of successful teaching experience (preferred)?A valid R. I. Certificate as a Guidance Counselor?A masters degree, or its equivalent, representing intensive course work in the principles and practice of educational guidance; educational testing and measurement; counseling; the organization and administration of guidance services; and the psychology of learningTERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 1.Regular school year as stipulated for Guidance Counselors per NSTA Collective Bargaining Agreement2.Salary and other conditions to be set by the School Committee per contractual agreementEVALUATION: Evaluation annually in accordance with provisions of the School Committee Policy on EvaluationJOB GOAL: To support each student in reaching his or her full academic, career, and personal potential in order to become a responsible community member.RHODE ISLAND PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS FOR SCHOOL COUNSELORS: ?Standard 1: Plan, organize and deliver the school counseling curriculum.?Standard 2: Implement individual planning interventions in collaboration with partners (e.g., teachers, parents, mentors).?Standard 3: Provide responsive services in consultation with administrators, teachers and student support services through referrals to external organizations/agencies.?Standard 4: Monitor student progress on a regular basis.?Standard 5: Manage and use time effectively.?Standard 6: Collect and analyze school counseling data.?Standard 7: Encourage and provide system support.?Standard 8: Communicate regularly with the school council and other school advisory committees.?Standard 9: Conduct a yearly program audit.?Standard 10: Act as a student advocate, leader, collaborator and systems change agent.RHODE ISLAND EDUCATOR CODE OF PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITY: Set of commitments which guide professional conduct in all situations with professional and ethical implications.
