Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced, strategic Controller to manage our day-to-day financial operations and maintain the plant’s overall financial health. Reporting directly to the President, you will serve as a critical financial business partner to plant supervisors and executive leadership. In this role, you will lead our office and accounting team, oversee plant cost accounting, drive process improvements, and streamline financial and administrative logistics.
Key Responsibilities
· Financial Management & Strategy: Oversee all accounting operations including A/P, A/R, G/L, payroll, and cash flow management. Forecast cash flow, monitor bank lines of credit, and direct customer past-dues and credit application approvals.
· Cost Accounting & Budgeting: Prepare annual office and plant budgets, monthly/quarterly forecasts, and financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow). Analyze production costs, material consumption, inventory valuation, and variances to identify cost-reduction opportunities.
· Operational & Capital Tracking: Track capital expenditure projects, provide management with financial insights and variance explanations, and partner with production/supply chain teams to optimize processes.
· Compliance & Reporting: Ensure adherence to GAAP, corporate policies, and state/federal regulations. Manage internal/external audits, annual 1099 reporting, and support profit-sharing administration.
· Team Leadership & HR: Lead, train, and develop the finance and office team (currently 3 direct reports). Support health insurance oversight and foster a collaborative environment built on fairness and professional respect.
· Logistics & Fleet Administration: Manage facility maintenance/janitorial contracts, vehicle licensing, registration, annual IRS 2290 filings, and quarterly IFTA returns.
Qualifications & Skills
· Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
· Experience: 5+ years of progressive accounting, financial analysis, or controller experience within a manufacturing environment.
· Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of product costing, standard costs, and inventory valuation. Proficiency in ERP systems (Global Shop Solutions / GSS preferred) and advanced Microsoft Office skills.
· Core Competencies: Exceptional business judgment and analytical skills. Proven ability to mine complex data and translate it into actionable business strategies. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
· Standard hours dictated by workload (exempt status); occasional travel may be required.
· Ability to regularly navigate an office and manufacturing environment, with occasional lifting of up to 40 lbs.
