About Green Attic

Green Attic is a growing Chicagoland construction and home-services company specializing in roofing, insulation, energy-efficiency improvements, remodeling, restoration, and multi-trade construction.

We are hiring an experienced Chief Operating Officer to lead company-wide operations, strengthen management, improve profitability, and build systems that allow the company to continue growing without depending on ownership for daily operational decisions.

Important

This is a true executive operations position.

We are not looking for a Project Manager, Superintendent, Production Manager, Field Supervisor, or Crew Manager looking for their next title.

The right candidate must have experience:

Managing multiple departments or business units
Managing managers and department leaders
Owning operational budgets and profitability
Improving gross margin and labor efficiency
Building SOPs, KPIs, scorecards, and accountability systems
Leading construction or home-services operations
Creating structure during rapid company growth

What You Will Lead

The COO will oversee:

Production and field operations
Project management
Scheduling
Customer service
Warehouse and purchasing
Vendors and subcontractors
Administrative operations
Operational financial performance

You will work directly with ownership to turn company goals into clear operating plans and measurable results.

Key Responsibilities

Lead company-wide daily operations
Manage and develop department leaders and managers
Establish clear responsibilities, KPIs, and accountability
Improve operational profitability and gross margin
Review budgets, job costing, labor costs, material costs, and project performance
Improve scheduling, production capacity, and resource planning
Strengthen coordination between sales, production, accounting, warehouse, and customer service
Identify leadership and performance problems and take corrective action
Improve SOPs, workflows, reporting, and management systems
Reduce project delays, callbacks, warranty issues, and customer escalations
Improve purchasing, material control, change orders, billing readiness, and job closeout
Build weekly and quarterly management scorecards
Create strong escalation procedures so ownership is not handling routine problems
Use technology and automation to improve visibility and efficiency

Construction Experience Required

You will not personally manage every project or crew, but you must understand construction well enough to recognize:

Poor scopes of work
Unrealistic schedules
Labor problems
Material problems
Job-costing issues
Margin risks
Change-order opportunities
Quality-control failures
Subcontractor issues
Safety risks
Customer escalation risks

Experience in roofing, insulation, remodeling, restoration, or multi-trade construction is strongly preferred.

Required Qualifications

8+ years of progressive leadership experience in construction, home services, roofing, remodeling, restoration, or a related industry
5+ years in senior operations or executive leadership
Experience managing managers and department leaders
Experience overseeing multiple departments, locations, or service divisions
Responsibility for operational budgets, profitability, labor performance, and KPIs
Strong understanding of job costing, gross margin, forecasting, and cash-flow impact
Strong knowledge of construction operations from estimating through production, billing, completion, and warranty
Proven ability to build systems, SOPs, reporting, and accountability
Experience leading companies through growth, restructuring, or operational change
Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability
Comfortable addressing poor performance directly
Able to work in person throughout the Chicagoland area

Who We Want

We want an experienced construction executive who can look at the entire business, identify what is not working, create a plan, assign accountability, and make sure the solution actually gets implemented.

You should be able to operate at both levels:

Executive: strategy, profitability, leadership, organizational structure, and growth.

Operational: projects, crews, schedules, materials, customers, subcontractors, and execution.

Most importantly, we want someone who builds strong managers and systems instead of becoming the person everyone calls for every problem.
