Full Job Description

Position Summary

The Infusion Coordinator is responsible for managing the infusion scheduling process from referral through treatment. This includes obtaining insurance authorizations, verifying benefits, educating patients regarding their financial responsibility, coordinating infusion appointments, and ensuring all required documentation is completed prior to treatment.

Key Responsibilities

Obtain prior authorizations for specialty infusion medications and infusion services.
Verify insurance eligibility, benefits, and patient financial responsibility.
Calculate and communicate patient out-of-pocket costs, including deductibles, copayments, and coinsurance.
Collect patient payments prior to treatment when applicable.
Schedule infusion appointments while coordinating medication delivery and nursing availability.
Monitor authorization expiration dates and obtain reauthorizations as needed.
Maintain accurate authorization and scheduling records within the EMR.
Coordinate with physicians, nurses, specialty pharmacies, and insurance companies to prevent delays in treatment.
Track infusion referrals from receipt through completion.
Follow up on pending authorizations and appeals when necessary.
Ensure all required laboratory work, clinical documentation, and treatment orders are completed before the infusion date.
Provide compassionate education to patients regarding the infusion process, insurance coverage, and scheduling expectations.
Assist with maintaining infusion schedules to maximize chair utilization and minimize treatment delays.
Maintain compliance with payer policies, Medicare guidelines, and practice protocols.

Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of experience in medical prior authorizations, infusion coordination, or specialty pharmacy preferred.
Experience working with commercial insurance, Medicare, Medicare Advantage, Medicaid, and specialty infusion medications.
Knowledge of benefit verification, prior authorization processes, and medical billing.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple patients and deadlines.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Proficiency with electronic medical records (EMR); Athenahealth experience is a plus.
Neurology or infusion center experience is strongly preferred.

Preferred Skills

Knowledge of specialty medications such as Ocrevus, Uplizna, Vyepti, Vyvgart, Leqembi, Tysabri, Briumvi, and IVIG therapies.
Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clinical and administrative staff.
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Experience obtaining appeals and peer-to-peer documentation when authorizations are denied.

Pay: $19.00 - $20.00 per hour
