Position Summary
The Saw Operator is responsible for safely setting up, operating, maintaining, and cleaning production saws to cut materials according to work orders, prints, specifications, and production demand. This role supports the fabrication and production workflow by producing accurately cut parts within established tolerances, inspecting finished pieces for quality and dimensional accuracy, and making basic equipment adjustments as needed to maintain consistent output. The Saw Operator is expected to follow all safety procedures, use appropriate PPE, maintain an organized work area, and communicate effectively with team members to support efficient material flow, quality standards, and on-time completion of customer orders.
Key Responsibilities
- Review work orders, prints, cut lists, and specifications to confirm material type, dimensions, tolerances, quantities, and production priorities before beginning work.
- Set up and operate production saws safely and efficiently, including positioning materials, verifying alignment, selecting appropriate settings, and monitoring equipment during cutting operations.
- Produce accurately cut parts within established specifications and tolerances while meeting expected production quantities and supporting downstream fabrication or order fulfillment needs.
- Measure, inspect, and verify finished parts using appropriate measuring tools to confirm dimensional accuracy, cut quality, function, and cosmetic requirements.
- Identify material defects, cutting issues, equipment concerns, or quality variances and communicate them promptly to the appropriate supervisor or team member.
- Perform routine equipment checks, basic adjustments, blade changes, cleaning, and preventive maintenance activities to support safe operation and consistent saw performance.
- Handle, stage, move, bundle, package, and label raw materials and finished parts as needed to maintain organized workflow and accurate material movement through production.
- Use approved hand tools, power tools, and finishing methods to deburr, clean, or prepare cut parts according to job requirements and safety procedures.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly work area by following housekeeping expectations, proper material storage practices, and all applicable safety requirements, including PPE use.
- Complete required production documentation or job tracking accurately and communicate with supervisors and team members to support schedule adherence, quality standards, and efficient workflow.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support fabrication, production, warehouse, and material handling operations.

Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing, fabrication, production, warehouse, or material handling environment.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, cut lists, prints, drawings, measurements, and written instructions accurately.
- Basic math skills, including the ability to read a tape measure and calculate dimensions, quantities, and material lengths.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to learn or operate production saws, hand tools, power tools, and related fabrication equipment safely.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to measure, inspect, and verify parts for accuracy, quality, and conformance to specifications.
- Ability to follow safety procedures, wear required PPE, maintain a clean work area, and comply with applicable OSHA and company safety standards.
- Ability to communicate clearly, follow direction, work independently when needed, and collaborate effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Strong organization, time management, and reliability to support production schedules and changing workflow priorities.
- Tow motor experience or ability to become certified through Unistrut after hire.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) or more years of experience operating production saws, band saws, cold saws, miter saws, or similar cutting equipment in a manufacturing or fabrication setting.
- Experience cutting metal, strut, threaded rod, pipe, channel, or similar construction or industrial materials to specified dimensions.
- Familiarity with blade selection, blade changes, machine setup, cutting speeds, feed rates, and basic saw troubleshooting.
- Experience using measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, squares, protractors, or gauges to verify part accuracy.
- Prior forklift, tow motor, pallet jack, or overhead material handling experience.
- Experience completing production paperwork, job tracking, inventory transactions, or material labels accurately.
- Previous experience in lean manufacturing, 5S, continuous improvement, or a structured production environment with quality and productivity standards.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach for extended periods of time.
- Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment safely.
- Ability to work in a warehouse environment with exposure to varying temperatures, noise, and moving machinery.
- Ability to wear proper PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as steel toe boots, safety eye protection, etc.
Work Schedule
This position is full-time. Standard work hours are 8 am – 4:40 pm Monday through Friday, with occasional overtime, early starts, or extended hours based on operational demands.
