Full Job Description

Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Library Clerk to join our library team. The ideal candidate will assist in managing library collections, providing excellent customer service, and supporting daily library operations. This role offers an opportunity to work with diverse resources, develop strong organizational skills, and contribute to a welcoming environment for library patrons. The Library Clerk will play a vital role in maintaining accurate records, cataloging materials, and ensuring efficient access to information through various systems and databases.

Responsibilities

Assist patrons with locating materials, using online resource databases, and navigating the integrated library system (ILS)
Perform cataloging and classification of new materials using Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and other standards
Conduct data entry for library records, including updating catalog information and managing circulation data
Organize and maintain the library collection arrangement, including filing alphabetically and numerically
Manage archives and records management tasks to preserve historical documents and current records
Support library services such as reference assistance, research support, and database searching for reference inquiries
Use productivity software such as Microsoft Office to prepare reports, labels, and other documentation
Troubleshoot technical issues related to library software and hardware systems
Assist with filing, data collection, and inventory management to ensure accurate record keeping
Provide excellent customer service by addressing patron questions promptly and courteously

Requirements

Strong computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office, productivity software, and database searching tools
Knowledge of cataloging standards such as Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) and experience with integrated library systems (ILS)
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage filing systems both alphabetically and numerically
Effective communication skills for interacting with patrons and team members
Experience in data entry, records management, and research techniques within a library setting preferred
Technical proficiency in software troubleshooting and database management is a plus
Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
Prior experience with archives or library collection arrangement is desirable but not required
Strong typing skills for accurate data entry and record keeping
