Sunset Stone Company is hiring an Apprentice Equipment Operator at our limestone quarry in Wamego, KS.
If you have ever wanted to run heavy equipment for a living, this is where you start. You will train alongside experienced operators on loaders, excavators, skid steers, and haul trucks, and you will get paid while you learn. No prior equipment experience required. What we require is that you show up, work hard, and take pride in doing the job right.

Position: Apprentice Equipment Operator
Location: Wamego, KS (quarry)
Pay: $18 to $24 per hour DOE
Job Type: Full-time
What You Will Do:
- Train on loaders, excavators, skid steers, and haul trucks under experienced operators
- Load, stockpile, and haul limestone and aggregate around the quarry
- Run daily walk around inspections: fluids, grease, tires, tracks, belts, lights, and safety systems
- Service and grease equipment, and report problems before they turn into breakdowns
- Keep feed areas clear and material moving for crusher and conveyor operations
- Maintain quarry roads, stockpile areas, and general site housekeeping
- Take part in daily safety briefings and toolbox talks
- Wear required PPE at all times: hard hat, vest, steel toe boots, eye and ear protection
What We Are Looking For:
- Reliable. You show up on time, every day, ready to work
- Mechanically inclined, or willing to learn
- Comfortable working outdoors year round in Kansas weather
- Available for overtime and occasional Saturdays during the busy season
- Valid driver's license and dependable transportation to Wamego
- Works safe and takes direction
- No equipment experience required. Farm, ranch, construction, trucking, welding, or mechanic background is a plus
