Position Title: Administrative and Marketing Coordinator

Supervisor: Director, Center for Business & Innovation

Organization

The Thurston Economic Development Council (EDC) is the state-designated lead economic development organization in Thurston County. The EDC is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization governed by a 26-member Board of Directors, and is the parent organization to the Thurston Economic Development Council Center for Business & Innovation (CB&I), a 501(c)(3) non-profit. The EDC/CB&I's combined mission is to create a vital and sustainable economy throughout the county and region that supports the livelihood and values of our residents. We do this by:

Connecting local businesses with experts and resources that help them remain competitive;
Supporting the creation of new businesses through training, advising and coaching;
Creating and delivering strategic messages that attract new investment to our community;
Working with our community partners to enhance our collective prosperity and encourage our economic future; and
Participating with regional partners to ensure that Thurston County plays an appropriate role on the regional economic stage.

Position Objective:

The Administrative and Marketing Coordinator provides the day-to-day administrative, marketing, and coordination support that keeps the Center for Business & Innovation (CB&I) programs running smoothly and responsively. This role is the first point of contact for new business inquiries, ensuring every prospective client is triaged quickly and directed to the right resource, and provides marketing, administrative, and coordination support across CB&I's programs as needed. The Coordinator manages marketing and communication channels, supports data tracking and client follow-up, and provides event and administrative support - allowing the Director to focus on sponsor partnerships, funding, strategic direction, and other center-wide priorities. This position works closely with the Director on CB&I's ongoing growth, planning, and overall program quality and excellence, and operates under the Director's general direction.

Primary duties include, but are not limited to:

Assists the Director to implement program initiatives, support continuous improvement efforts, and advance CB&I's strategic goals and overall program excellence.
Manage the intake of new business inquiries to include monitoring program inboxes and related intake channels, ensuring timely, professional responses and connecting prospective clients with the appropriate resource, advisor, or program.
Maintain and update client and program data across the organization's CRM, cloud-based systems, and project management tools (training provided).
Develop and distribute newsletters and manage social media accounts, including content planning and posting; working understanding of tools such as Typeform, Constant Contact, and Canva.
Create marketing and outreach content, including blog posts, website updates/edits, and promotional materials.
Maintain a documented follow-up process with past and current clients to support retention and continued engagement.
Collect and input program and client data to support reporting and outcome tracking.
Provide event planning support and attend events and workshops as needed.
Update and maintain business materials, templates, and client-facing resources.
Document internal processes and changes across CB&I program operations.
Support general outreach efforts to prospective clients, partners, and the community.
Provide administrative support to the Director as needed, including scheduling, filing, and other coordination tasks.
Provide administrative, marketing, or coordination support across other CB&I programs as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Ability to prioritize and manage a high volume of inquiries and tasks with minimal guidance in a deadline-intensive, fast-paced environment.
Professional, customer-service oriented, with strong follow-through.
Comfortable interacting with a diverse clientele and the public.
Strong written communication skills, including newsletters, social media, and blog content.
Willingness and ability to learn multiple CRM, cloud-based, and project management systems (training provided).
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, particularly for data entry and client tracking.
Ability to respond to and take direction from the Director effectively and efficiently.
This is an in-person position based at the CB&I office in Lacey, WA.
Ability to provide consistent and punctual attendance.
Proficient with computer software including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Publisher, and PowerPoint).

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate's degree, project management certification, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Two to three years of administrative, coordination, or customer service experience.
Experience with social media management, content creation, or newsletter development.
Experience with data entry and maintaining accuracy across multiple systems.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience prioritizing tasks to ensure high levels of customer service while completing other duties required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
Experience working in a non-profit or economic development environment.
Experience with grant writing or grant-funded programs (see Wage/Benefits - eligible for higher starting pay).
Experience with website content management (e.g., WordPress or similar platforms).
Experience working with small businesses in Thurston County.
Demonstrated experience as a team-oriented and team-driven individual.

Wage/Benefits:

This is a full time, hourly (non-exempt) position paid $23.08-$25.96/hour ($48,000-$54,000 annualized), depending on experience. Candidates with demonstrated grant writing and non-profit program experience will be considered at up to $2.00/hour above the posted range. This position qualifies for health and dental benefits, paid time off, paid sick leave per Washington law, holiday pay, and Simple IRA matching contributions.
