Position Summary

The Vice President serves as a senior leadership team member responsible for supporting the CEO in the overall management, strategy, and operations of the organization. This role helps ensure organizational goals are achieved through effective leadership, cross-department collaboration, staff oversight, program quality, financial stewardship, fundraising support, and strategic planning.

This position is intended to serve as an initial step in the organization's long-term leadership succession strategy, offering executive-level leadership experience and organizational exposure designed to support leadership continuity and future growth.

The Vice President may oversee multiple departments, site leaders, or functional areas depending on the structure and needs of the organization.

Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership & Organizational Strategy

Partner with the CEO to develop and implement organizational priorities, strategic initiatives, and long-term goals
Serve as a member of the executive leadership team and participate in high-level decision-making
Support Board development efforts through collaboration, communication, strategic engagement, and participation in Board-related initiatives as requested
Help ensure alignment between programs, operations, finance, human resources, and organizational objectives
Participate in succession planning efforts and leadership development initiatives
Work closely with the CEO to gain exposure to executive leadership responsibilities, strategic planning, Board engagement, and organizational decision-making
Act on behalf of the CEO when delegated
Provide leadership and support to directors, managers, and department heads

Operations & Program Oversight

Oversee day-to-day operations of assigned departments, sites, or functional areas
Monitor organizational performance, productivity, and service delivery
Ensure programs and operations are meeting established standards, goals, and compliance requirements
Identify operational challenges and develop solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness
Assist with organizational planning, expansion, and special projects

Staff Leadership & Development

Supervise, coach, and evaluate assigned leadership staff
Promote a positive, collaborative, and accountable work culture
Support employee engagement, professional development, and succession planning
Assist with recruitment, onboarding, corrective action, and performance management of leadership staff
Ensure staff follow organizational policies, procedures, and expectations

Fundraising & External Relations

Support and participate in fundraising initiatives, donor engagement activities, and special events
Assist in cultivating and maintaining relationships with donors, community partners, sponsors, and stakeholders
Partner with the CEO and leadership team to identify opportunities that support organizational growth and resource development
Represent the organization at community events, partnership meetings, and fundraising activities as appropriate

Financial & Administrative Oversight

Assist with budget development, monitoring, and resource allocation
Review financial reports and help ensure responsible fiscal management
Support grant compliance, reporting, and stewardship of organizational resources
Ensure operational practices align with legal, regulatory, and funding requirements

Community & Stakeholder Relations

Represent the organization with community partners, donors, schools, agencies, board members, and other stakeholders
Help strengthen partnerships and identify opportunities for collaboration
Support fundraising efforts, events, presentations, and external communications as needed
Participate in board meetings, committees, and executive-level discussions as requested

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Public Administration, Human Resources, Education, or a related field required; Master's degree preferred
Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive leadership experience
Experience supervising multiple departments, teams, or locations preferred
Strong leadership, communication, conflict resolution, and decision-making skills
Knowledge of nonprofit operations, budgeting, compliance, and strategic planning
Ability to build relationships with staff, leadership, community partners, and board members
Experience with fundraising, donor engagement, or community partnership development preferred
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other applicable systems

Preferred Experience for a Youth-Serving Nonprofit

Experience working in a nonprofit, youth-serving, educational, or community-based organization
Familiarity with grants, contracts, licensing requirements, and program compliance
Knowledge of staff supervision, employee relations, and organizational culture
Experience overseeing multiple sites or programs

Physical Requirements

Ability to sit, stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 25 pounds as needed
Ability to travel between sites and attend meetings, events, and community functions
Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends

Work Environment

This position operates in a professional office environment with regular travel to organization sites, community meetings, and events.
