THE OPPORTUNITY
Thomas Gray & Associates, Inc. is seeking a dependable Class A or B CDL Driver/Warehouse Technician to join our team in Orange, California.
This is a hands-on, safety-sensitive position that combines commercial driving with substantial on-site warehouse, material-handling, documentation, and regulatory-compliance responsibilities. Driving is an important part of the position; however, employees should expect to spend a significant portion of their working time at our Orange facility performing warehouse and operational duties.
The employee will operate a box truck and other authorized commercial vehicles to pick up hazardous and/or radioactive materials from generator locations and transport them to our facility or other authorized destinations. Responsibilities also include loading, unloading, inspecting, segregating, packaging, labeling, consolidating, storing, and preparing materials for transportation or processing.
Because this position interacts directly with customers, strong communication, computer, organizational, and customer-service skills are required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
DRIVING AND TRANSPORTATION
- Safely operate a Class A or B commercial vehicle, including a box truck, on local and regional routes.
- Pick up hazardous, radioactive, and/or non-hazardous materials from customer and generator locations.
- Transport materials to the company’s facility or other authorized destinations in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles, trailers, and related equipment.
- Verify that vehicles and equipment are safe, properly maintained, and suitable for the assigned work.
- Comply with applicable Department of Transportation requirements, including driver qualification, hours-of-service, inspection, placarding, permitting, and shipping requirements.
- Maintain accurate driver logs, vehicle-inspection records, fuel reports, mileage records, permits, insurance documents, and other required paperwork.
- Confirm that load weights and material placement are within legal and operational limits.
- Properly secure loads and inspect the condition and integrity of containers before transportation.
- Immediately report accidents, spills, releases, moving violations, vehicle damage, equipment problems, and unsafe conditions to management.
- Maintain a clean and organized company vehicle.
WAREHOUSE AND FACILITY OPERATIONS
- Perform substantial hands-on work at the company’s Orange facility when not assigned to driving duties.
- Load and unload trucks, trailers, containers, drums, packages, pallets, equipment, and supplies.
- Receive, inspect, count, sort, segregate, package, label, consolidate, store, stage, and prepare materials for transportation, processing, or shipment.
- Operate approved material-handling equipment after receiving the required training and authorization.
- Assist with warehouse organization, inventory control, housekeeping, and maintaining clear and safe work areas.
- Inspect containers for damage, deterioration, leakage, improper closure, incorrect labeling, or other discrepancies.
- Assist with container preparation, overpacking, palletizing, wrapping, blocking, bracing, and load securement.
- Support facility projects and daily operational needs as directed by management.
- Perform physically demanding work in warehouse, outdoor, industrial, and customer-site environments.
- Maintain company tools, equipment, workspaces, and storage areas in a clean and serviceable condition.
CUSTOMER AND FIELD-SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Communicate professionally with customers at each service location.
- Review the scope of work, material condition, container count, site conditions, and required documentation with customers and company personnel.
- Identify and report discrepancies involving paperwork, labeling, packaging, quantities, or material condition before accepting a shipment.
- Work with customers and supervisors to resolve discrepancies before materials are transported.
- Represent Thomas Gray & Associates professionally while working at customer locations.
- Follow customer-site safety, security, access, and operating requirements.
DOCUMENTATION AND REGULATORY COMPLIANCE
- Review manifests, shipping papers, waste profiles, inventories, container labels, markings, vehicle placards, permits, and related records for accuracy and completeness.
- Assist with the preparation and completion of DOT shipping papers and other transportation or facility documentation.
- Maintain complete, accurate, legible, and timely records.
- Perform work in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, permits, licenses, customer requirements, and site-specific health and safety plans.
- Follow all Thomas Gray & Associates policies, procedures, work instructions, and compliance requirements.
- Participate in required safety meetings, compliance training, medical-surveillance programs, fit testing, and job-specific training.
- Promptly report spills, releases, damaged containers, documentation errors, unsafe conditions, and potential compliance concerns.
- Stop work and notify a supervisor when a task cannot be completed safely or in accordance with applicable requirements.
- Protect confidential company and customer information.
SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Treat health and safety as the highest priority.
- Follow all safe-work practices, policies, procedures, and supervisor instructions.
- Wear company-provided personal protective equipment as required, including eye protection, protective footwear, gloves, high-visibility clothing, Tyvek coveralls, and respiratory protection.
- Properly use, inspect, maintain, and store assigned personal protective equipment.
- Attend required training and demonstrate an understanding of safe material-handling and transportation practices.
- Maintain awareness of changing site, traffic, weather, material, and equipment conditions.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide operational support in the warehouse, facility, yard, office, or field based on daily business needs.
- Assist other employees and departments with transportation, warehouse, material-handling, documentation, housekeeping, inventory, equipment, and compliance-related activities.
- Work overtime or an adjusted weekday schedule when required by operational needs. Weekend work is expected to be infrequent but may occasionally be required for urgent customer needs, special projects, emergencies, or unusual operational circumstances.
- Perform other duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned by management. Duties may change based on operational, customer, safety, staffing, and regulatory requirements.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate
- At least 21 years of age
- At least one year of commercial driving experience
- Previous manual-labor, warehouse, industrial, environmental-services, or material-handling experience strongly preferred
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License
- Current Hazmat endorsement, or the ability to obtain and continuously maintain one as a condition of employment
- Driving record acceptable under company and insurance requirements
- Forty-hour HAZWOPER training preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Familiarity with DOT regulations governing the transportation of hazardous and non-hazardous materials
- Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records
- Good customer-service, communication, and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently after receiving appropriate training
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Ability to recognize and report unsafe or noncompliant conditions
- Basic computer skills, including the ability to use a laptop, printer, email, and electronic documentation systems
- Ability to adapt to changing assignments, schedules, routes, and operational priorities
PHYSICAL AND WORK REQUIREMENTS
This is an active, hands-on position and is not limited to driving. The employee must be willing and able to:
- Regularly perform warehouse, loading, unloading, packaging, and material-handling work.
- Repeatedly lift, carry, push, pull, and otherwise handle items weighing up to 75 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, crouch, climb, and work on their feet for extended periods.
- Enter and exit commercial vehicles repeatedly throughout the workday.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures, weather conditions, and industrial environments.
- Work around trucks, trailers, forklifts, drums, containers, warehouse equipment, and regulated materials.
- Wear required personal protective equipment for the duration of assigned tasks.
- Wear a respirator when required and satisfy applicable medical-clearance and fit-testing requirements.
- Safely complete the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
SCHEDULE
- Monday through Friday
- Overtime may be available or required based on operational needs
- Weekend work is generally not required and is expected to be minimal
- Occasional weekend work may be necessary for urgent customer needs, special projects, emergencies, or unusual operational circumstances
- Local and regional travel

Schedules, routes, assignments, and start or end times may occasionally change based on customer appointments, traffic, weather, staffing, regulatory requirements, and other business needs.
