Job Title: Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS)

Organization: Recovery Connections

Location: Florida

Organization Type: Substance Abuse Recovery Community Organization (RCO)

**This role requires firsthand lived experience with substance use disorder **

Position Summary

The Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) at Recovery Connections provides peer-based recovery support services to individuals experiencing substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions. Drawing on lived experience and specialized training, the CRPS empowers participants to achieve and maintain recovery, connect with community resources, and build meaningful, self-directed lives.

Key Responsibilities

Provide one-on-one and group peer support services grounded in recovery principles.
Use lived experience to inspire hope, model recovery, and promote self-advocacy.
Assist participants in developing and working toward individualized recovery goals.
Facilitate recovery-oriented groups, workshops, and wellness activities.
Connect individuals to community resources such as housing, employment, healthcare, and social services.
Support participants in navigating systems of care, including treatment programs and social services.
Maintain appropriate documentation in accordance with Recovery Connections policies and state requirements.
Promote harm reduction strategies and multiple recovery pathways (abstinence-based, medication-assisted recovery, etc.).
Participate in outreach efforts to engage underserved or high-risk populations.
Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to ethical standards for peer support.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED required.
Minimum of 2 years of lived experience in recovery from substance use and/or co-occurring disorders.
Strong understanding of recovery principles, pathways, and community resources.
Ability to work with diverse populations, including individuals with complex needs.
Able to acquire Peer Specialist Certification within 1-year of hire.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in a Recovery Community Organization (RCO) or similar setting.
Knowledge of trauma-informed care and harm reduction practices.
Bilingual (English/Spanish or other languages) a plus.
Experience with group facilitation and community outreach.
Current Florida Certified Recovery Peer Specialist (CRPS) credential in good standing.

Skills & Competencies

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to build trust and rapport with participants.
Strong organizational and time management abilities.
Basic computer skills and familiarity with documentation systems.
Commitment to recovery-oriented, person-centered care.

Work Environment

Community-based setting, including Recovery Connections offices, outreach locations, and participant homes as needed.
May require flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.

Physical Requirements

Ability to travel locally for outreach and participant support.
Ability to sit, stand, and move for extended periods.
