The Department of Psychology at the University of Maine is recruiting a clinical psychologist at the associate professor rank to serve as the Director of Clinical Training (DCT) anticipated to start August 31, 2026. The DCT is the faculty member responsible for the doctoral program in clinical psychology (“the program”). The DCT leads the clinical faculty and advances the clinical program’s interests to the full department faculty and the department chair. They are responsible for assuring that the program maintains APA accreditation and for managing communication between the Commission on Accreditation and the program. While serving as the DCT, the faculty member will receive 1.5 months of summer compensation corresponding with the responsibilities of the position that extend beyond the regular 9-month, academic-year appointment. The ordinary teaching assignment for the DCT is 1/1 (the regular load is 2/2).
The successful candidate will maintain an active and productive research program, including pursuit of external funding for research, teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, and participate in departmental and university service.
Essential duties and responsibilities related to the DCT include, but are not limited to:
- manage recruitment of students to the program
- supervise administration of Psychological Services Center
- liaise to APA (e.g., annual reports, accreditation renewal)
- update program handbook annually
- secure and maintain appropriate community-based training experiences
- advise the chair on graduate class scheduling
- manage clinical program students’ professional development and training-related personal issues
- maintain documentation of PhD students’ clinical experiences
- oversee annual review of each clinical student
- track the development of profession-wide competencies for each clinical student
- conduct annual survey of program alumni
- pursue funding to support the clinical program (e.g., federal training grants, private support)
- lead the clinical faculty.
The Department of Psychology includes an MA program in Psychological Science (Social, Cognitive, Biological), and Doctoral programs in Psychological Science and Clinical Psychology. The doctoral program in clinical psychology has enjoyed continuous APA accreditation since 1975. Faculty clinical and research interests include cognitive aging, behavioral medicine, suicide risk assessment, stress-illness models, and social determinants in health. The clinical program offers well-regarded Neuropsychology and Child Psychology training emphasis for doctoral students as well. Qualifications:
Required:
- Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology for an APA accredited program
- Completion of APA accredited predoctoral internship
- Active license to practice psychology and eligible for Maine licensure
- Has obtained rank of Associate Professor at a regionally accredited college or university
- Meets University of Maine Department of Psychology criteria for rank of Associate Professor
- Record of peer-reviewed publications and ongoing program of research
- Experience mentoring doctoral students in clinical psychology
- Record of successful classroom teaching
- Knowledge of APA Standard of Accreditation and Operating Procedures of the Committee on Accreditation
- Academic leadership experience
- Record of securing external funding for research
Preferred:
- Record of securing external funding to support training of doctoral students in clinical psychology
Evidence of involvement in departmental, institutional, and professional service
