We are seeking a top-tier M&A executive with a demonstrated history of identifying, acquiring, integrating, and scaling companies.
The Opportunity
The Executive Vice President of Mergers & Acquisitions and Integration will lead MTLI Group’s acquisition strategy from initial market mapping through post-closing integration.
This is not solely a transaction or investment-banking position. We are looking for an experienced operating executive who understands how to lead organizations through periods of significant change, combine management teams, retain key employees, integrate systems, improve performance, and create measurable value following an acquisition.
The successful candidate will work directly with the CEO, founder, executive leadership team, investors, lenders, legal counsel, and acquisition targets to build a repeatable M&A engine capable of completing and successfully integrating multiple acquisitions.
Key ResponsibilitiesM&A Strategy and Pipeline Development
- Develop and execute MTLI Group’s long-term acquisition strategy.
- Identify industries, regions, service lines, and businesses that align with MTLI’s strategic objectives.
- Build and maintain a strong pipeline of acquisition opportunities across Canada and the United States.
- Establish relationships with business owners, founders, private equity firms, investment banks, brokers, lenders, and industry advisors.
- Proactively source off-market acquisition opportunities.
- Evaluate potential targets based on strategic fit, financial performance, leadership quality, customer relationships, operational capabilities, and integration potential.
Transaction Leadership
- Lead acquisitions through the complete transaction lifecycle.
- Oversee initial evaluations, confidentiality agreements, indications of interest, letters of intent, due diligence, negotiations, financing, closing, and transition planning.
- Develop acquisition business cases, valuation models, synergy analyses, risk assessments, and investment recommendations.
- Coordinate financial, legal, operational, commercial, environmental, technology, human resources, and safety-related due diligence.
- Identify material risks, liabilities, customer concentration, working-capital requirements, integration costs, and potential deal-breakers.
- Work with legal and financial advisors to structure transactions that protect MTLI and align seller incentives with long-term performance.
- Present acquisition opportunities and recommendations to the CEO, board, investors, and other key stakeholders.
Post-Acquisition Integration
- Build and lead MTLI Group’s formal integration management office.
- Develop detailed 30-day, 90-day, one-year, and long-term integration plans.
- Establish integration priorities, timelines, accountabilities, performance targets, and reporting systems.
- Integrate acquired companies across operations, finance, sales, technology, human resources, safety, legal, marketing, procurement, and customer service.
- Align acquired businesses with MTLI’s operating standards without unnecessarily disrupting successful local teams or customer relationships.
- Consolidate systems, reporting structures, policies, processes, vendors, and shared services where appropriate.
- Ensure financial controls, project-cost tracking, forecasting, compliance, and management reporting are implemented following closing.
- Track and deliver revenue synergies, cost savings, operational improvements, margin expansion, and working-capital improvements.
Organizational Leadership
- Lead large organizations through acquisitions, mergers, restructuring, and periods of significant change.
- Evaluate the leadership teams of acquisition targets and determine the appropriate future organizational structure.
- Retain key leaders, employees, customers, vendors, and industry relationships.
- Build trust with founders and employees of acquired companies.
- Create clear communication plans for employees, customers, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Resolve integration challenges quickly while protecting employee morale and customer service.
- Recruit and develop a high-performing team of M&A, integration, finance, operational, and change-management professionals.
- Work closely with regional and divisional leaders to ensure acquired businesses achieve their strategic and financial targets.
Value Creation and Performance Management
- Establish clear financial and operational targets for every acquisition.
- Monitor revenue, gross profit, EBITDA, backlog, customer retention, employee retention, safety, productivity, cash flow, and integration progress.
- Develop corrective action plans when an acquired company falls behind expectations.
- Identify opportunities for cross-selling, geographic expansion, shared purchasing, labour optimization, equipment utilization, and operational standardization.
- Help acquired companies access MTLI’s broader customer base, systems, resources, workforce, and North American capabilities.
- Provide regular integration and performance reports to executive leadership and the board.
Required Experience
- Significant executive-level experience in mergers and acquisitions, corporate development, private equity operations, post-merger integration, or business transformation.
- A proven track record of successfully completing and integrating multiple acquisitions.
- Demonstrated experience leading large organizations through mergers, acquisitions, restructuring, or rapid growth.
- Experience managing complex transactions from sourcing through closing and post-acquisition integration.
- Strong understanding of valuation, financial modeling, deal structures, due diligence, working capital, financing, and purchase agreements.
- Experience managing executives, operational leaders, professional advisors, and cross-functional integration teams.
- Demonstrated success achieving measurable post-acquisition synergies and performance improvements.
- Experience working directly with founders, family-owned businesses, boards, private equity firms, investors, or institutional lenders.
- Strong understanding of organizational design, leadership assessment, change management, and employee retention.
- Ability to travel extensively throughout Canada and the United States.

During the first 12 months, the successful executive will be expected to:
- Develop a clear three-to-five-year acquisition strategy.
- Build a qualified pipeline of strategic acquisition targets.
- Create standardized processes for sourcing, evaluation, due diligence, transaction execution, and integration.
- Establish an integration management office and repeatable integration playbook.
- Advance priority opportunities through negotiations and due diligence.
- Complete and successfully integrate acquisitions that support MTLI’s growth strategy.
- Protect customer and employee retention during each integration.
- Deliver measurable revenue growth, cost efficiencies, margin improvement, and strategic value.
- Build the internal leadership and infrastructure required to support a multi-company North American platform.

You know how to move quickly without overlooking risks, and you can bring structure to complex, rapidly changing organizations.
