Position Summary

Responsible for managing the property tax compliance cycle with primary responsibilities centered on return preparation, tax bill processing, and payment. This role specializes in complex and centrally assessed property at the state and local levels for clients in the utility, power generation, communications, data center, oil & gas, industrial manufacturing, and mining industries. The position includes compliance responsibilities for large-scale data center portfolios, involving technology infrastructure, network equipment, power distribution systems, and other high-value personal property assets.

The position focuses on ensuring accurate preparation and timely filing of returns, with an emphasis on utility and energy-related assets, including electric and gas utilities, pipelines, and power generation assets (renewable and conventional).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepare complex personal property and centrally assessed tax returns and supporting workpapers using Microsoft Excel, PowerPlan, PTMS, or OneSource.
Prepare and support filings for utility, power generation, communications, and data center clients, including unitary and multi-state filings.
Reconcile property tax returns to fixed asset systems and, where applicable, regulatory filings (e.g., FERC or state commission reports).
Reconcile data center and technology asset inventories, capitalization records, and fixed asset systems to property tax filings.
Review state and local laws, rules, regulations, and industry-specific guidance affecting utility, communications, and data center property.
Analyze and report technology assets including servers, storage equipment, network infrastructure, power distribution equipment, and other data center personal property.
Track jurisdictional assessment notices and tax bills.
Process tax bills and prepare funding requests for payment.
Maintain accurate property tax calendars and meet all filing deadlines.
Update internal compliance software throughout reporting, assessment, and payment cycles.
Assist with appeals, amended returns, and refund requests, including support for utility, communications, and data center-related matters.
Support new client implementations, including setup for utility, communications, energy, and data center portfolios.
Serve as a resource for team members on client-specific and technical issues.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Assist with training and mentoring junior team members
Assist with return reviews and special projects
Support business development initiatives and client onboarding

Education and Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, or related field.
3-5 years of property tax experience.
Experience with utility, power generation, communications, data center, or other complex property tax compliance environments preferred.
Experience with centrally assessed property, multi-state filings, and complex apportionment methodologies preferred.
Experience reporting technology assets, network infrastructure, telecommunications equipment, or data center facilities for personal property tax purposes preferred.
Experience with property tax software (PTMS, OneSource, PowerPlan, or similar platforms).
Advanced Excel skills.
Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
Valid driver's license.
