Tyler Union is currently seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Pattern Maker to join our team. This position is ideal for individuals with a strong background in pattern making who take pride in precision, craftsmanship, and quality workmanship. The Pattern Maker will be responsible for laying out, machining, fitting, and assembling castings and parts into metal or plastic foundry patterns, core boxes, and match plates. This is a hands-on role that plays a critical part in supporting our foundry operations and maintaining high production standards. Starting pay for this position is $29.14 per hour.

Job Description

Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Management Program. Advise management of any deviations from this program.
Set up and operate machine tools, such as drill presses, disc sanders, spindle sanders, table saws, band saws, planners, jointers and radial saws.
Read and interpret blueprints or drawings of parts to be cast or patterns to be made, compute dimensions, and plan operational sequences.
Build offset parting boards and flask.
Mount and gate working patterns as instructed.
Verify conformance of patterns or core box dimensions to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, scales, or micrometers.
Repair and rework templates, patterns, and core boxes.
Mark identification numbers or symbols onto patterns or templates.
Must keep and maintain a neat and orderly workstation.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED required.
Associate degree in a technical field or training in a vocational school preferred.
Basic machining experience preferred.
Three (2) years’ experience in pattern making.
Must demonstrate mastery of building offset parting boards and flasks, mounting and gating of working patterns, and conformance to patterns to specifications.

Knowledge required to perform this job includes mathematics; mechanical; design; engineering and technology; and production and processing.
Skills required to perform this job include operation monitoring; critical thinking; operation and control; active listening; and reading comprehension.
Abilities required to perform this job include arm-hand steadiness; near vision; control precision; information ordering; manual dexterity; oral comprehension; problem sensitivity; visualization; oral expression; finger dexterity; written comprehension; deductive reasoning; inductive reasoning; multi-limb coordination; selective attention; and speech clarity.
Work activities required to perform this job include controlling machines and processes; getting information; making decisions and solving problems; drafting, laying out, and specifying technical devices, parts, and equipment; thinking creatively; communicating with supervisors and peers; updating and using relevant knowledge; identifying objects, actions, and events; monitor processes, materials, and surroundings; handling and moving objects; processing information; evaluating information to determine compliance with standards; inspecting equipment, structures, and materials; analyzing data or information; organizing, planning, and prioritizing work; and repairing and maintaining mechanical equipment.
Physical activities that require considerable use of arms and legs and moving the whole body include climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, standing, stooping, and handling tools and materials.
Must wear common protective or safety equipment, such as safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats, as required.
