Full Job Description

The Accounting Clerk - Accounts Payable is a part-time position (20-25 hours per week) responsible for managing the church's accounts payable function of the Business Office. This position is also part of the larger church team and will support the primary church strategies 1) to connect, 2) to disciple, and 3) to go in accomplishing the church's mission of helping people embrace the life-changing truth of Jesus Christ. This position reports directly to the Controller and is responsible for ensuring vendors are paid accurately and on time, maintaining organized financial records, and supporting strong internal financial controls. The ideal candidate is a highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter who works independently while maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.

Requirements:

Proficiency with Google Workspace, Adobe Acrobat, and Microsoft Excel.
Experience with accounting software preferred; willingness to learn church financial software required.
Ability to identify discrepancies while maintaining exceptional attention to detail. 
Ability to manage recurring deadlines and prioritize work independently.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Ability to analyze processes, anticipate issues, and recommend improvements to increase efficiency.
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of financial and personal information.
Demonstrate honesty, integrity, and faithful stewardship when handling church financial resources and confidential information.
Professional verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently while contributing to a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Accounts Payable:

Process weekly accounts payable check runs, including verifying payment requests, entering invoices, printing checks, and maintaining supporting documentation.
Process electronic funds transfer (EFT) payments by reviewing bank transactions, preparing approval documentation, and recording transactions in the accounting system.
Manage the weekly credit card reconciliation process by compiling transaction reports, organizing receipts, obtaining approvals, and entering transactions into the accounting system.
Process monthly and quarterly denominational support payments accurately and on schedule.
Maintain organized electronic and paper records to support financial reporting and audit requirements.
Scan, organize, and archive monthly contribution records.
Ensure all accounts payable documentation is complete, properly approved, and maintained in accordance with established financial procedures.
Identify opportunities to improve accounts payable processes and recommend workflow efficiencies.
Assist with financial records retention and archival procedures. Administrative

Office Support:

Receive and distribute incoming mail.
Coordinate with the bank courier regarding deposits and other financial documents.
Serve as the designated Key 2 holder in accordance with established financial control procedures.
Maintain organized financial files and records to ensure an accurate audit trail.
Provide backup support for Business Office functions as assigned by the Controller.
Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Work Environment:

Part-time office-based position (20-25 hours per week) located within the Business Office.
Reports directly to the Controller.
Work schedule is determined by the Controller and Personnel Committee.
Requires handling confidential financial information while maintaining compliance with established internal controls and church financial policies.

Pay: From $17.00 per hour
