General Manager – Hyatt Place Newark / Silicon Valley

IMPORTANT — PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING

We have recently purchased this hotel and are seeking an experienced hotel General Manager with a proven track record of building high-performing teams, developing strong department leaders, strengthening workplace culture, driving accountability, and delivering measurable improvements in guest satisfaction, operational performance, and financial results.

Compensation

Base Salary: $110,000–$130,000 + performance-based quarterly and annual bonus

Sign-on bonus and relocation assistance may also be available for the right candidate.

Our priority is finding the right leader for the property, with appropriate flexibility in compensation based on experience, qualifications, and demonstrated results.

About the Opportunity

Hyatt Place Newark / Silicon Valley is a modern, upscale select-service hotel featuring 112 guest rooms, a bar, indoor pool, fitness center, and approximately 2,000 square feet of meeting and event space.

We are seeking a strong General Manager to assume overall leadership responsibility for the hotel, its management team, workplace culture, guest experience, operational performance, and financial results.

Working closely with ownership, the General Manager will establish clear priorities and expectations, develop department leaders, strengthen accountability, improve hotel performance, and build a high-performing and engaged workplace culture.

This is a hands-on leadership position, but the GM’s primary responsibility is to lead the leaders—building a strong management team and ensuring department leaders consistently deliver results.

The successful candidate will be visible throughout the hotel and connected to employees, guests, and daily operations while maintaining focus on the overall leadership and business performance of the property.

Key Responsibilities: Hotel Leadership & Performance

· Provide overall leadership and direction for the hotel and management team.

· Establish clear goals, standards, priorities, and performance expectations across the property.

· Lead department managers and hold them accountable for departmental results.

· Build a management culture centered on accountability, teamwork, communication, guest service, and continuous improvement.

· Review hotel performance, identify recurring problems, and ensure effective corrective actions are implemented.

· Maintain a visible presence throughout the hotel while ensuring consistent Hyatt brand and quality standards.

Leadership, Culture & Team Development

· Recruit, develop, coach, motivate, and retain strong department leaders and team members.

· Develop managers and supervisors into stronger leaders and hold them accountable for measurable results.

· Build a workplace culture of ownership, teamwork, recognition, professionalism, and accountability.

· Address leadership, performance, and behavioral issues promptly and consistently.

· Identify and develop high-potential employees for future leadership opportunities.

Financial & Business Leadership

· Take ownership of the hotel’s overall financial and operational performance.

· Partner with ownership on business strategy, staffing, labor management, cost controls, revenue opportunities, and profitability.

· Review budgets, forecasts, operating statements, labor performance, and key hotel KPIs.

· Manage labor and operating expenses while maintaining service and quality standards.

· Work with Sales and Revenue Management to improve revenue, occupancy, ADR, and profitability.

Guest Experience & Quality

· Maintain high standards for guest service, cleanliness, maintenance, Front Office, F&B, and overall hotel presentation.

· Review guest feedback, quality scores, and recurring issues and ensure appropriate corrective actions.

· Maintain Hyatt brand and quality-assurance standards.

· Engage with guests and employees to remain connected to the guest experience and hotel culture.

Operational Oversight

· Maintain strong knowledge of Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering & Maintenance, F&B, and other hotel operations.

· Regularly walk and inspect the property to verify standards and operating conditions.

· Ensure department managers maintain effective procedures, training, scheduling, inspections, and accountability systems.

· Promote strong coordination across departments and monitor major operational priorities.

· Step into operational matters when necessary while maintaining accountability at the department-manager level.

Ownership & Brand Partnership

· Serve as the primary property-level leadership partner for ownership.

· Communicate effectively with ownership regarding performance, staffing, opportunities, challenges, and significant operational issues.

· Represent the hotel professionally with Hyatt, vendors, business partners, and the community.

· Ensure compliance with Hyatt requirements, applicable regulations, hotel policies, and ownership expectations.

Qualifications

· 10+ years of progressive hotel experience with substantial senior leadership responsibility strongly preferred.

· Previous experience as a hotel General Manager strongly preferred. Exceptional AGM or Director of Operations candidates with responsibility for overall hotel performance may also be considered.

· Proven track record of building strong teams, developing leaders, strengthening culture, and driving accountability.

· Strong knowledge of Front Office, Housekeeping, Engineering/Maintenance, guest services, and F&B operations.

· Demonstrated success improving guest satisfaction, quality scores, operational performance, labor productivity, and/or profitability.

· Experience managing budgets, labor, operating expenses, and hotel financial performance.

· Strong leadership, communication, decision-making, problem-solving, and follow-through skills.

· Ability to work a flexible schedule based on hotel operational needs.

Preferred Qualifications

· Hyatt experience is highly desirable but not required.

· Experience with Opera PMS, Hyatt Connect, and other Hyatt systems is highly desirable.

· Must have 5+ years of leadership expereince with one or more of the major 4 hotel brands: Hyatt, Hilton, Marriott, IHG.

· Demonstrated success developing department leaders and improving overall hotel performance.

We are looking for a General Manager who can lead the hotel through strong department leaders while remaining visible and connected to the operation.

The right candidate will build a strong management team, establish clear expectations, develop leaders, drive accountability, and create a high-performing workplace culture.

This leader will combine strategic thinking with operational awareness—knowing when to coach, delegate, or personally get involved while ensuring problems are permanently resolved.

We want a leader who can develop people, strengthen culture, improve business performance, and continuously move the hotel forward.
