Job Summary:
Hands Of Healing’s Licensed Vocational Nurse will be responsible for the supervision and management of the medical department, reporting to the Director or Medical Services or designee. This individual will use sound medical and professional judgment and best practices to support the medical, safety and well-being of every child in care. He/She is also responsible for maintaining compliance with established state nursing and licensing regulatory agencies, and federal standards requirements. The LVN is directly responsible for medical care of the children to include, but not limited to well child visits, immunizations, sick child visits, documentation, supply inventory and ordering.
Essential Functions:
- Perform nursing duties at designated site(s) in accordance with nursing guidelines and best practices established by the Texas Board of Nursing for Registered Nurses.
- Complete accurate documentation of nursing activities performed in accordance with agency policies and procedures and contract and regulatory requirements and standards and program timeline requirements.
- Meet all pre-determined deadlines required by program and federal partners.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally in English and Spanish.
- Meet all federal and state regulatory guidelines and standards that are applicable to this position.
- Supervise all components of the Medical Department to include supervision of Medical Assistant.
- Collaborate with medical service providers to obtain technical assistance in the implementation of medical services.
- Will ensure services are expedited by ensuring a physical screening is provided to UC within forty-eight (48) business hours of admission by a local licensed healthcare professional.
- Will take directives from the licensed health care provider regarding minor medical fluids, counseling UC on proper wound care, observe UC charting and reporting changes in UC’s condition, and implement medical safety plans accordingly.
- Responsible for tracking of all Official System of Record data, UC medical files, ensure proper Immunizations schedules are utilized in accordance with ORR, DHHS, and TVFC policies and procedures.
- Ensure timely reporting of all medical incidents (e.g., SIRs, DFPS reports).
- Track and ensure specialized services include but limited to dental treatments, psychological, psychiatric, family planning, and emergency care are provided as needed for UC in care.
- Conduct follow-up foster home visits for UC discharged from medical facilities.
- Provide guidance and instructions to the Foster Parents regarding the treatment plan issued by licensed physician and review safety plans.
- Complete the Special Need List during Hurricane season for DHS and ORR and be a point of contact with ORR Medical Team.
- Remain on-call twenty-four (24) hours/seven (7) days a week for all medical related issues/emergencies.
- Participate in scheduled meetings, team decisions and operations.
- Adhere to scheduled hours pertaining to position, remain available for on-call scheduling, and work evenings, weekends and holidays as needed, requested, or deemed appropriate.
- Know, understand, and apply positive behavior management techniques including verbal redirection, de-escalation, and containment.
- Know and recognize the signs of abuse, neglect, and exploitation and sexually provocative behavior and implement professional response, reporting and documenting procedures.
- Show appreciation and affection toward children in a manner that is compassionate and professional, minimizing cultural misinterpretations.
- Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers, professionals, and children.
- Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining control and professional composure at all times and making decisions based on the needs of the program and service population.
- Maintain computer literacy required to meet the responsibilities of the position.
- Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Exhibit the ability to maintain professional people skills, oral, written, listening, and non-verbal communication skills.
- Able to react professionally and productively to change and handle other essential tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Must be at least 21 years of age at the time of hire.
- Graduate from accredited Licensed Vocational Nursing Program
- At least one (1) year pediatric nursing experience preferred.
- Must possess a valid state driver’s license and be eligible to drive to facilitate program services as required by contractual agreement.
- Required to work a flexible schedule to facilitate program services.
- Cleared Tuberculosis test results.
- Cleared background check from appropriate entity.
- Must be Bilingual (English/Spanish)
- Cleared pre-employment and random drug test results.
- Must be flexible and be willing to work irregular and long hours including evenings and weekends.
- Maintain current and annual training requirements/licensure/certifications required for the position including, but not limited to:
- Good standing as a Licensed Vocational Nurse with the state of Texas Board of Nursing
- Current BLS certifications, PALS preferred
Physical Demands:
Must be able to obtain and perform Emergency Behavior Intervention Training (EBI)/Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification and First Aid Certification (CPR). Must be able to supervise clients indoors and outdoors as necessary. Bending, stooping and lifting up to 15lbs required to complete daily tasks. Most activities include repetitive motions and can include overhead reaching.
Work Environment:
Work is at a youth care facility at which minors receive multiple services. Two shifts per twenty-four-hour period. Work shifts are subject to change. Noise levels vary from mild to moderate. Predominantly indoors, occasional outdoor monitoring or activities.
