Full Job Description

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Tax, Accounting & Audit Senior Manager to join our firm in a key leadership position directly below the partner level.

We are looking for an experienced public accounting professional capable of assuming meaningful responsibility currently handled at the partner level, including independent final review of individual and business tax returns, identification of tax planning opportunities, oversight of audit and assurance engagements, supervision and review of accounting staff, and direct communication with clients.

A primary objective of this position is to add another experienced technical reviewer to the firm who can take a tax return prepared by a staff or senior accountant, perform a thorough technical and planning review, resolve issues, and determine that the return is ready for client delivery and filing without requiring routine secondary review by a partner.

The successful candidate will work closely with the firm's partners while having substantial independence and responsibility over assigned engagements.

Responsibilities

Tax Review & Planning

Serve as a final-review resource for individual and business tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1120-S, 1120, 1041, and related federal and state filings, with the ability to determine that completed returns are ready for client delivery and filing.
Identify technical issues, inconsistencies, missing information, elections, basis and distribution issues, compensation matters, multi-state considerations, and other areas requiring attention before completion.
Identify and recommend meaningful tax-planning opportunities for closely held businesses and their owners, including consideration of the relationship between business and individual tax returns.
Research and resolve federal and state tax matters, assist with year-end and ongoing tax planning, and exercise sound judgment regarding when an issue can be handled independently and when partner consultation is appropriate.

Audit & Assurance Responsibilities

The firm has an established audit and assurance practice currently supported by several partners. We are looking for this individual to become an important additional management and review resource within that area of the practice.

Manage and review audit, review, and compilation engagements, including planning, risk assessment, fieldwork supervision, workpaper review, financial statements and disclosure review, and engagement completion.
Review the work of senior and staff accountants, identify deficiencies or unresolved accounting and audit issues, provide technical direction, and ensure engagements are appropriately documented and completed in accordance with applicable professional standards,
Communicate directly with client management, supervise engagement teams, monitor open items, budgets and deadlines, and help ensure engagements move efficiently from planning through completion.
Work closely with partners on significant findings and complex matters while progressively assuming a meaningful portion of the audit engagement-management and technical-review responsibilities currently performed at the partner level.

Engagement & Client Management

Take ownership of assigned client engagements from planning through completion, including workflow, open items, deadlines, and overall engagement progress.
Communicate directly with business owners, controllers, CFO's, bookkeepers, nonprofit management, and individual clients, resolving routine questions and issues without unnecessary partner involvement.
Develop a strong understanding of assigned clients and coordinate their tax, accounting, and assurance needs while maintaining strong long-term client relationships.
Exercise sound professional judgement regarding issues that can be resolved independently and matters requiring partner consultation.

Pay: $125,000.00 - $175,000.00 per year
