Position Summary
Highly skilled Electrical/Instrumentation professionals performing at or above the Journeyman, CCST/EPRI Level II or equivalent level who safely install, maintain, repair, calibrate, troubleshoot & optimize industrial electrical, instrumentation, automation, power transmission & distribution systems with minimal supervision. Responsibilities include advanced diagnostics, system analysis, process optimization, preventive maintenance, construction, installation, renovation & repair of electrical & instrumentation infrastructure while supporting safe, reliable production. May mentor, train or provide technical guidance to other electrical/instrumentation employees.
What You Will Do
- Remove, repair, install, calibrate, maintain & troubleshoot industrial electrical components, instrumentation equipment, automation systems, electrical systems & related infrastructure while performing system analysis, diagnosis, advanced troubleshooting & system/process optimization.
- Safely complete routine & non-routine electrical repairs, instrumentation calibrations, preventive maintenance, installations, renovations, upgrades & construction activities in compliance with company safety policies, SOPs, environmental requirements & applicable regulatory standards.
- Perform preventive maintenance, installation, repair, calibration & troubleshooting of industrial electrical & instrumentation equipment including substations, power transmission & distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, motors, motor controls, electrical circuits, AC/DC drives, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, process controls, pneumatic equipment, control valves, field transmitters/transducers, analytical instrumentation, weigh scales & HVAC equipment.
- Troubleshoot & maintain industrial control systems, overhead cranes, management control systems, process instrumentation systems, automation systems & low-, medium- & high-voltage electrical equipment to identify, diagnose & correct faults while maintaining safe & reliable operation.
- Perform instrumentation setup, calibration, loop checking, transmitter configuration, control valve setup & diagnosis, electrical testing & control system troubleshooting.
- Construct, install, maintain & troubleshoot electrical infrastructure including substations, transformers, switchgear, overhead & underground power distribution, transmission systems, service lines, circuit protection equipment, customer metering, lighting systems & related structures.
- Perform power transmission & distribution construction, maintenance, extensions & cutbacks supporting plant facilities, mine operations, mobile equipment, substations & site infrastructure.
- Install, maintain & repair primary & secondary metering systems, general area lighting, electrical circuits & associated infrastructure.
- Read, interpret & apply information from technical manuals, electrical prints, blueprints, loop drawings, schematics & other documentation to diagnose, troubleshoot & repair electrical circuits, instrumentation & connected equipment.
- Perform installations & renovations in compliance with regulatory agency standards, safety requirements & company procedures.
- Follow SOPs, work area instructions, LOTOTO procedures, NFPA 70E electrical safety standards & environmental requirements while safely operating plant equipment.
- Participate in safety, environmental & operational improvement initiatives.
- Mentor, train & provide technical guidance to other electrical/instrumentation employees & serve as Fill-In Supervisor when required.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support business needs.
What You Bring To Freeport
One of the following:
- Completion of an approved Certified Electronics, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control Systems or related technical program.
- Minimum four (4) years of industrial electrical, instrumentation, automation, power distribution, maintenance & repair experience.
- Associate degree or Trade School Certification in a related field & two (2) years of experience performing maintenance & repair of industrial electrical, instrumentation or automation systems.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated experience installing, maintaining, repairing, calibrating & troubleshooting industrial electrical systems, process instrumentation, automation systems, electrical circuits, power transmission & distribution systems & connected equipment.
- Strong knowledge of substations, transformers, switchgear, overhead & underground power distribution, power transmission systems, motor controls, AC/DC drives, VFDs, PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, process controls, instrumentation, pneumatic equipment, control valves, transmitters/transducers, weigh scales & low-, medium- & high-voltage electrical equipment.
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical circuits & apply information from technical manuals, prints, schematics, blueprints, loop drawings & other documentation for installation, troubleshooting & repair activities.
- Experience troubleshooting PLCs, control systems, transmitters, control valves, electrical testing, loop checking & instrumentation calibration.
- Knowledge of rubber gloving, hot sticking, live-line maintenance practices & electrical infrastructure maintenance.
- Proficiency with LOTOTO procedures, NFPA 70E electrical safety standards & applicable regulatory requirements.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining safe production.
- Ability to perform work from bucket trucks or elevated work platforms for extended periods.
- Ability to operate boom trucks, bucket trucks, backhoes & other support equipment as required, including groundman duties.
- Valid State Driver’s License with ability to obtain a CDL within 90 days of hire.
- Effective written & verbal communication skills to support training, safety & company communication requirements.
- Must provide required personal tools as defined by the department tool list or obtain them within 90 days of hire.
- Must successfully complete required academic, practical & safety competencies, demonstrate technical knowledge & aptitude & pass written and/or practical assessments where applicable.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- CCST/EPRI Level II certification or equivalent instrumentation qualification.
- Experience with VFDs, PLCs, HMIs & SCADA control systems.
- Experience working with low-, medium- & high-voltage electrical systems.
- Experience with AC/DC drives & controls.
- Experience with substations, transformers, switchgear, power transmission & distribution systems, overhead & underground power lines & customer metering.
- Experience with process instrumentation devices, control valves, pneumatic equipment, transmitter/transducer calibration, analytical instrumentation, weigh scales, diagnostic electrical test equipment & HVAC equipment.
- Experience with DC motors, conduit bending, transformer installation & maintenance & powerline construction & maintenance.
- Experience operating bucket trucks, boom trucks & backhoes.
- Previous experience mentoring, training or supervising electrical/instrumentation personnel.
