At The French Workshop, we create exceptional café experiences rooted in quality, craftsmanship, and community.

Our General Managers are the owners of this experience, responsible for bringing our standards, culture, and atmosphere to life in every interaction, every display, and every detail of daily operations.

Role Summary

The General Manager serves as the leader and steward of their location, responsible for delivering an outstanding customer experience while driving operational excellence, team performance, and financial results.

This role goes beyond managing tasks, it requires building culture, inspiring teams, and making strategic decisions that ensure each shop reflects the brand’s commitment to excellence, artistry, and family.

General Managers are expected to think and act like business owners, taking full accountability for the success of their location.

Key Leadership ResponsibilitiesLocation Ownership & Customer Experience

Champion and maintain a best-in-class café experience aligned with brand standards
Serve as the visible ambassador of The French Workshop culture and atmosphere
Ensure displays are visually abundant, fresh, and reflective of product quality expectations
Actively observe customer behaviors and feedback to improve service flow and experience
Maintain a strong and consistent floor presence during peak operational hours

Team Leadership & Culture Building

Inspire buy-in through strong interpersonal skills, emotional intelligence, and leadership presence
Coach, mentor, and develop team members to build a high-performance and service-driven culture
Set clear expectations around service standards, teamwork, and accountability
Foster an environment of collaboration, pride, and professionalism
Lead by example in communication, work ethic, and customer engagement
Lead onboarding, and retention efforts for shop team members
Identify high-potential employees and actively build leadership bench strength
Support cross-training initiatives to strengthen operational flexibility
Deliver consistent performance feedback and growth coaching

Business & Operational Performance

Analyze sales trends, product movement, and operational KPIs to make informed business decisions
Manage ordering strategy to ensure optimal product availability while minimizing waste
Oversee labor planning and scheduling aligned with sales volume and operational needs
Conduct regular inventory reviews and implement corrective actions where needed
Maintenance
Maintain financial discipline through deposit management, invoice oversight, and cost awareness

Execution & Standards

Ensure full compliance with food safety regulations and operational procedures
Maintain strong coordination between front-of-house and back-of-house teams
Quickly identify operational gaps and implement solutions to maintain smooth daily execution
Partner with vendors to uphold product quality and supply reliability
Oversee shop maintenance, organization, and cleanliness standards, conduct hourly audits

Talent & Organizational Development

Lead onboarding, and retention efforts for shop team members
Identify high-potential employees and actively build leadership bench strength
Support cross-training initiatives to strengthen operational flexibility
Deliver consistent performance feedback and growth coaching
