Position Overview
We're seeking an experienced Restaurant Manager to oversee all restaurant operations. This role combines hands-on restaurant management during peak hours with strategic business oversight that can be performed remotely. You'll be implementing systems, training protocols, and efficiency improvements while maintaining the fun, interactive culture that makes Hal's special.
Key Responsibilities
Daily Operations Oversight
- Physical presence required twice daily during lunch and dinner rush hours
- Monitor all restaurant operations including kitchen and customer service
- Step into any position as needed (cooking, serving, order-taking) during staff shortages
- Handle cash management, credit transactions, and bank deposits
- Monitor third-party delivery services (DoorDash, etc.) and transaction accuracy
- Troubleshoot daily operational challenges and provide immediate solutions
Quality Control & Standards
- Ensure consistent food quality meets established standards
- Monitor food distributor quality and reject substitutions or subpar products
- Oversee cleanliness, sanitization, and health department compliance
- Maintain interior and exterior aesthetic standards
- Implement product dating systems and proper food storage protocols
- Monitor operations, cooking procedures, and equipment maintenance
Staff Management & Development
- Develop and implement comprehensive staff training protocols
- Conduct bi-annual employee reviews and performance evaluations
- Create job descriptions for all positions
- Provide corrective guidance and positive feedback to enhance performance
- Train new employees to meet owner expectations and operational demands
- Promote teamwork and identify individual strengths/weaknesses for targeted improvement
Financial Management & Analysis
- Monitor profits through food costs, labor analysis, and profit margins semi-annually
- Create weekly schedules using profit-driven techniques based on historical data
- Watch for price changes from suppliers and monitor competitor pricing
- Identify opportunities to reduce labor hours
- Send staff home early or manage standby scheduling during slow periods
- Oversee food waste reduction and cost control measures
Process Improvement & Efficiency
- Develop processes to enhance productivity and reduce customer wait times
- Implement systems to improve order accuracy and reduce errors
- Enforce order verification procedures (checking off bag items, reading back orders)
- Prioritize staff duties based on food quality and timeliness as top priorities
- Assign daily tasks during slow periods to eliminate wasted time
- Test and refine operational procedures for maximum efficiency
Administrative & Strategic Duties
- Coordinate policy changes and implementation
- Provide recommendations for menu changes and supplier selections
- Handle vendor communications and supply pickup when needed
- Monitor and analyze previous year/week performance data for scheduling
- Account for weather, events, and holidays in operational planning
- Ensure compliance with all safety and health regulations
Requirements
Essential Qualifications
- Extensive restaurant management experience required
- Proven ability to work all restaurant positions (cooking, serving, cashier, etc.)
- Strong financial analysis and cost control experience
- Excellent customer service and communication skills for staff management
- Ability to work during peak rush hours and be on-call for emergencies
- Experience with staff training and development programs
