Full Job Description

Small Group Employment Specialist (SGE)

Hours: Monday – Friday 7:30am – 4:00 pm /3:30pm if taking a working lunch

This position involves working closely with participants, employers, and community resources to facilitate job placements and provide ongoing support. The Employment Specialist will be instrumental in educating clients about workforce development, mentoring them through the job search process, and ensuring compliance with employment labor laws.

As a Small Group Coach, each day you will support (2-3) participants providing them with the training and coaching necessary to work successfully in various business/organizational settings.

This position is classified as a Safety-Sensitive Function under applicable federal and state laws, including U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations (49 CFR Part 40 and 49 CFR Part 382, as applicable). As such, the individual in this role is subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements, including but not limited to:

Pre-employment drug testing
Random drug and alcohol testing
Reasonable suspicion testing
Post-accident testing
Return-to-duty and follow-up testing (if applicable)

The use of marijuana (including medical marijuana), even if legal under state law, is prohibited under federal DOT regulations for individuals performing safety-sensitive functions. All applicants must be able to comply with federal and state laws governing drug and alcohol use and testing.

Qualifications

One year of experience in human services preferred
Current PA Driver's license with clean driving record
Pass a pre-employment physical and PA State Police Background Check
Pass a Lighthouse Driver's test
Complete a CPS training within thirty days of hire
Lighthouse will provide training to obtain the Professional Certificate of Achievement in Employment Services from the Association of Community Rehabilitation Educators(ACRE)
Effective time management skills are a must
Strong mentoring skills with the ability to inspire and motivate clients.
Able to maintain confidentiality and respect privacy
Proficient in interviewing techniques and able to provide constructive feedback.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a strong ability to build rapport with clients and employers alike.

Responsibilities

Educate participants on effective job search strategies and workforce development resources.
Conduct assessments to identify participant strengths, skills, and employment goals.
Collaborate with local businesses to create job opportunities for participants while ensuring adherence to employment labor laws.
Read and sign ISPs for each individual, and learn the essential information for each; medications, physical limitations, allergies, behavioral concerns, adaptive equipment needs, and any safety precautions needed, knowing each level of supervision needed while in the community
Completes Daily Documentation in Setworks
Transport participants to and from work site driving a company provided vehicle or ensuring reliable transportation is in place
Have quarterly meetings with supervisor for performance reviews/goal setting/implementation/coaching
Work as a team player with colleagues to promote a positive and engaging work environment
Complete annual required online training on Relias training platform
Attend in-person professional development/team building training
Advocate for the rights of individuals with IDD in various settings, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations
Support the mission and vision of Lighthouse Vocational Services
Complete all other tasks as assigned

Physical Requirements

Occasional walking, especially if traveling to job sites, job fairs, or partner agencies.
Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
Good vision to read documents, computer screens, and write reports
Good hearing to interact effectively with participants and colleagues, in person or by phone
Able to speak clearly and understand verbal instructions and conversations in a variety of environments.
Able to walk up and down stairs
Able to lift up to fifty pounds
Able to use a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment.
May involve filing, writing, or light paperwork
Frequent bending, stretching, and reaching
Able to work in various work environments (i.e. hot, cold, noisy)
