Reports To: Director of Content & Social Marketing
Campus Location: Hybrid – Based Onsite at Springfield, IL or East Peoria, IL with the opportunity for remote editing work.
FLSA Status: Exempt
Position Type: Full Time
Job Summary:
We’re looking for a creative, energetic, and camera-ready TikTok Content Creator to help tell the story of Midwest Technical Institute (MTI) and inspire the next generation of students.
This isn’t a desk job. It’s a “boots-on-the-ground” content creation role where you’ll spend your days capturing real student moments, interviewing instructors, filming hands-on training, jumping on trends, and creating engaging videos that showcase what life at MTI is really like.
If you’re the type of person who’s constantly saving TikTok trends, knows how to hook an audience in seconds, and loves creating content that feels authentic…we want to meet you.
What You’ll Do
- Own and actively manage the MTI TikTok account with a goal of publishing approximately three pieces of original content per day.
- Maintain the Delta Technical College (DTC) TikTok account by creating and scheduling content as authentic opportunities arise, recognizing that content frequency will vary based on campus access and available footage.
- Spend time throughout the campus capturing day-to-day student life, classroom activities, labs, events, instructor interactions, graduations, and behind-the-scenes moments.
- Interview students, graduates, instructors, and staff to tell compelling stories.
- Identify, adapt, and execute TikTok trends, sounds, challenges, and editing styles that align with the MTI and DTC brands.
- Edit short-form videos optimized for TikTok performance.
- Write engaging captions and collaborate with the Director of Content & Social Marketing on content strategy and campaign priorities.
- Actively manage community engagement by responding to comments, direct messages, and audience interactions across the MTI and DTC TikTok accounts in a timely, authentic, and helpful manner.
- Serve as a knowledgeable and approachable brand representative by answering prospective student questions, encouraging meaningful conversations, and directing users to appropriate resources while maintaining a friendly, engaging presence.
- Ensure all content and interactions align with MTI and DTC brand standards, institutional policies, and higher education compliance requirements, exercising sound judgment when responding to public inquiries.
- Travel to campus locations across Illinois, Missouri, and, as needed, Mississippi to capture authentic content, highlight campus culture, and support marketing initiatives. Moderate travel is expected as part of this role.
- Monitor TikTok performance and recommend new content ideas based on trends and audience engagement.
- Build relationships with students and staff to encourage authentic participation in content.
- Occasionally support content creation for other short-form platforms such as Instagram Reels and YouTube Shorts.
What We’re Looking For
- A strong understanding of TikTok culture, trends, algorithms, and storytelling.
- Excellent video shooting and mobile editing skills (CapCut, TikTok Editor, or similar tools).
- Comfortable appearing on camera and directing others on camera.
- Creative, self-motivated, and able to move quickly from idea to published content.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Organized enough to manage multiple content projects simultaneously while maintaining a consistent posting schedule.
- Passion for creating authentic content that resonates with Gen Z audiences.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Experience managing a successful TikTok account for a brand or personal channel is preferred.
- Portfolio demonstrating engaging short-form video content.
- Experience with CapCut, Adobe Premiere Pro, or similar editing software is preferrable.
- Familiarity with social media analytics and performance reporting.
- Understands the balance between creating relatable, trend-driven content and representing an educational institution with professionalism, accuracy, and compliance.
- Ability and willingness to travel moderately to campuses throughout Illinois, Missouri, and occasionally Mississippi to create on-location content.
- Photography and basic graphic design experience are a plus.
Success in This Role Looks Like:
- Consistently publishing engaging, authentic content that reflects the MTI brand.
- Growing followers, engagement, video views, and community interaction across TikTok.
- Becoming a familiar and trusted face on campus who can naturally capture student experiences.
- Identifying viral opportunities and trends while maintaining brand authenticity.
- Helping position MTI as one of the most engaging, followed trade schools on TikTok.
Why This Role Matters:
Today’s prospective students aren’t looking for polished commercials—they’re looking for real people, real experiences, and real careers. As our TikTok Content Creator, you’ll play a key role in helping thousands of future students discover what makes MTI different by telling authentic stories that inspire them to take the next step toward their future.
Working Conditions:
- Based in Springfield, IL or East Peoria, IL with occasional travel to other campuses.
- Occasional evening and weekends as needed
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 based on experience
- Benefits – Health Insurance, Dental, Vision, Retirement Plans, Paid Time Off, etc.
