Job Title: Fire Systems Technician
Reports to: Electrical Shop Foreman
Relocation Requirement: This position requires relocation. The employer provides transportation to and from the host nation from the employee’s point of hire in accordance with the successful candidate's offer letter.
Primary Responsibilities
Basic Functions:
Ensure proper fire and smoke detection, monitoring, and suppression system operation by inspecting, testing, programming, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing networked, addressable digital, electronic, and analog fire detection and suppression systems. Locate and correct deficiencies in electronic fire detection and various other fire suppression and fire alarm systems. Program fire systems to properly detect, transmit, and announce alarm signals.
Fabricate, install, inspect, alter, and repair fire suppression systems including water sprinkler and spray systems, kitchen suppression systems, standpipes, sprinkler risers, and electric and diesel fire pumps. Perform TDY trips to support outlying Posts as needed.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Performs troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, calibrations, and preventive maintenance on a wide variety of digital and analog fire protection detection systems, pneumatic, mechanical, auxiliary equipment, microprocessors and programmable equipment, and other related fire protection systems and devices.
- Performs troubleshooting, repairs, modifications, calibrations, installations, and preventive maintenance on fire suppression systems, electrical and diesel fire water pumps, and related control systems.
- Performs maintenance on fire extinguishers and related fire safety equipment.
- Conducts fire safety inspections to ensure compliance with applicable codes.
- Maintains detailed records, and produces periodic inspection and work reports as required.
- Performs technical review on construction and renovation projects that involve modification to fire detection or suppression systems, and provide as-built drawings as required.
- Maintains adequate stock of spare parts for fire detection and suppression systems. Initiates orders of parts as required ensuring continued operation of critical fire detection and suppression systems.
- Provides informal training to maintenance, and security personnel on the daily function and operation of fire detection systems.
- Supports other trades as directed.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED FOR EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE
Job Qualifications:
High school diploma, or the math and language skill set equivalent to that of a high school graduate. Must possess NICET Level III certification in fire alarm system. Skills and knowledge normally associated with completion of a formal on-the-job training program in a related skilled building trade and/or at least two years of experience as a Building Systems Technician or related skilled trade. A skill set commensurate with journeyman level work is required. Candidates must have a working knowledge of computer and microcomputer hardware and software used in fire alarm systems and should have experience with addressable fire alarm hardware and software. Knowledge of building systems, life safety and NFPA fire codes.
Candidates must possess trade-related math skills appropriate for this level of work and demonstrate proficiency in written and spoken English.
Must be 21 years of age or older, and possess a valid driver’s license.
A Top Secret Clearance is required.
Desired:
Experience and formal training in Siemens Cyberus Pyrotronics, and Honeywell Notifier fire alarm systems.
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Personal skills: Must possess professional and technical ability able to program, plan, schedule, evaluate, organize and delegate effectively. Must have excellent organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work independently with minimum supervision, work under stress to trouble shoot and solve site problems, and be willing to work outside normal working hours occasionally. Must be willing to work outdoors and perform field work in addition to office based functions.
Computer skills: Must have effective computer skills of AutoCad, Photoshop, MS Project or a scheduling software, Microsoft Office Suite, and the ability to use various internet search engines are required.
Safety: Must be able to perform all job activities and duties in a responsible manner to avoid the creation of safety or health hazards and conform to established safety and health policies. Must be able to utilize, and enforce appropriate usage of, personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by the job activity. Must report unsafe or hazardous conditions immediately to the POSHO.
Top Secret clearance is required.
