GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
3pm to 11pm and 11pm to 7am shift work.
This is full-performance work providing direct and support services to female or male drug and alcohol abusers in a residential setting. The Residential Aide is responsible for a variety of routine, basic tasks essential to the smooth operation of the facility and surrounding perimeter. Other duties associated with this position facilitate the treatment and rehabilitation of the residential client by assisting clients in overcoming anxieties, explaining available services, obtaining client cooperation and encouraging program involvement. Residential Aides function under the supervision of the Division Director or designee.
Work is performed in accordance with established regulations, policies and procedures, but employees are expected to exercise significant initiative and independent judgment in discharging duties. Work is reviewed by the Division Director or Supervisor through an evaluation of the timely and accurate completion of assignments.
DUTIES:
1. Assists in supervision of client activities, maintains accurate entries in the logbook, monitors client movement in sign-outs and passes and writes incident reports; employee is aware of client whereabouts at all times, including breaks and internal activities.
2. Attend all trainings and in-house conferences/seminars as directed by Division Director, HR, or designee.
3. Provides a brief overview of the residential program in regard to program rules, procedures, and services; with each new client entering the program.
4. Maintains order and ensures compliance with rules and regulations; ensures that clients conduct themselves in an orderly manner when exiting the facility, on agency property or in agency vehicles.
5. Monitors clients for signs of medical distress and/or behavioral concerns on an ongoing basis and through routine hourly bed checks, addresses, and documents incidents or unusual occurrences where necessary.
6. Provides appropriate support and structure for clients in dealing with their recovery; interacts continually with clients; provides information about such issues as addiction, health, relationships with friends and families, personal hygiene, grooming self-image, etc.
7. Facilitates residents’ morning meetings and “rap sessions” according to prescribed curriculum or schedule.
8. Escorts clients to smoke breaks, in-house and outside meetings.
9. Ensures client wake-up and bedtime, escorts clients to meals, and/or provides meals from kitchen when clients are not available for mealtime.
10. Escorts clients and/or ensures client has approved passes within building or outside to hospital or other services when necessary.
11. Obtains tokens from designed staff person or department and/or provides transportation for clients having outside meetings or appointments.
12. Takes clients to bank to open or deposit money into their accounts; arranges transportation for new clients to obtain their belongings from their previous address.
13. May be required to escort clients on store runs, when necessary, for the purchase of personal items.
14. Schedules and monitors clients’ cleaning supplies, chores, and assignments.
15. Reviews client’s weekly schedules for appointments, group work and individual sessions; obtains schedule requests from client, gets Director’s approval and posts on board.
16. Collects Weekend Visitor Lists for all clients qualified to have visitors.
17. Informs Case Manager weekly on client insurance status; sets up client appointments with Fiscal Clerk, Unit Supervisor, or Clinical Supervisor where necessary, and follows-through on results.
18. Collects, records and forwards rent to Divine Light Director or designee.
19. Gets daily mail, observes confidentiality standards and distributes to clients.
20. Monitors client consumption of medications, double-checks client medication log-sheets to ensure client consumption of medication. Documents client consumption of medications on the Medication Sheet as directed by the Medical Director or designee.
21. Secures client urines according to established policy & procedures ensuring that all safety, sanitation and security measures are adhered to. Completes all required documentation on the urine form and logs, secures and documents urinalysis screen in the log book.
22. Records daily behavioral progress notes on each client in the logbook.
23. Records accurate and up-to-date unit and client information in the logbook. Logbooks are legal documents and as such must be dated, numbered, signed and completed on the hour!!!!
24. Completes and updates monthly Client Census Report, makes copies and distributes to appropriate staff.
25. Files notes from weekend shifts in client files.
26. Continually updates Bed List ensuring that all admissions and discharges are recorded in a timely fashion.
27. Assures all discharged client files are in order, paperwork completed and recorded; notifies Director in writing of any incomplete work in client files.
28. Takes discharge folders to get signed by Medical Dept., makes and provides copies to appropriate staff; takes necessary discharge folders to Front Desk for security or restricted movement purposes.
29. Performs routine client services such as making coffee and juice, stripping beds when necessary, keeping unit tidy, and bagging soap powder, assembling copies of requisite paperwork.
30. Randomly inspects all rooms, common areas, hallways and bathrooms on an hourly basis and documents these inspections in the unit logbook; performs a thorough search for contraband not less than weekly.
31. Signs for, receives and distributes client linens.
32. Keeps count of linens and other supplies and writes supply requisitions when needed.
33. Cleans beds and clears out table drawers, etc. after client is discharged from program.
34. Responds appropriately to all medical and other emergencies.
35. Whenever assigned to drive agency vehicles for any reason, all Residential Aides are responsible for safe operation and maintenance of vehicles entrusted to their care as specified in Policy Manual.
36. Performs daily (E.V.S.), Eligibility Verification System check on all clients when appropriate.
37. Performs other duties, tasks and services as assigned by the Director or supervisor on duty.
38. Reports to the Director or supervisor any discrepancies in client's whereabouts or failure to return by curfew or anticipated time of return as recorded on the sign-out sheet.
39. Conducts pat searches of all clients and uses hand-held metal detectors to scan clients as they leave and return to the facility or unit, and records this on the appropriate log. Confiscates and secures any contraband found, and notifies the appropriate Director or supervisor on duty in their absence
40. Conducts comprehensive and random room searches with program management staff, when assigned.
41. Conducts search of all client bags when leaving and returning to the facility or unit, and records this on the appropriate log. Confiscates and secures any contraband found and notifies the appropriate Director or supervisor on duty in their absence.
42. Performs other duties, tasks and services for clients, safety, sanitation and security as assigned by management in a professional, ethical and non-judgmental manner.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education and Training: High School Diploma or GED. Knowledge of D&A Abuse & Treatment.
Sobriety: If recovering, minimum one (1) year continuous sobriety.
Substitutions: No substitutions for education and training. Successful completion of residential D&A treatment may be substituted for residential services experience (1 month treatment = 1 month service).

Pay: From $16.00 per hour
