Full Job Description

Business Manager

Position Summary:

The Business Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s daily business, under the leadership of the CEO while leading projects that support strategic goals and organizational growth. This role combines strong project management expertise with building and facilities management, oversight of housing development projects, and administration of grant-funded initiatives to ensure efficient coordination, effective resource utilization, and a safe, productive environment for employees, clients, and community partners.

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management

Lead and manage organizational and community development projects from planning through completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with organizational objectives.
Develop project plans, timelines, budgets, and performance metrics.
Coordinate cross-functional teams and communicate project updates to leadership, funders, and stakeholders.
Identify project risks and implement effective solutions to keep projects on schedule.
Evaluate project outcomes and recommend operational and program improvements.

Housing Development Oversight:

Oversee housing development and rehabilitation projects from pre-development through completion.
Coordinate project activities with contractors, architects, consultants, developers, municipal agencies, and funding partners.
Monitor project schedules, budgets, compliance requirements, and construction milestones.
Ensure housing projects align with organizational goals, regulatory requirements, and community needs.
Prepare project status reports and provide regular updates to executive leadership and funding agencies.

Grant Management and Funded Initiatives:

Oversee the implementation and administration of grant-funded programs and initiatives.
Monitor grant budgets, expenditures, timelines, deliverables, and reporting requirements to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and private funding sources.
Collaborate with program staff to ensure grant objectives and performance measures are achieved.
Assist with grant proposal development by providing project plans, budgets, operational data, and implementation strategies.
Maintain accurate documentation and prepare reports required by funders and organizational leadership.

Building and Facilities Management:

Oversee the day-to-day operations, maintenance, and security of organizational facilities.
Coordinate building repairs, renovations, preventative maintenance, and capital improvement projects.
Manage vendor and contractor relationships, ensuring quality service and cost-effective solutions.
Ensure compliance with applicable health, safety, accessibility, and building regulations.
Develop and manage facilities budgets while monitoring operating expenses.

Business Operations

Support organizational planning and operational efficiency across all departments.
Develop and implement policies and procedures that improve productivity, accountability, and service delivery.
Assist with budget development, financial oversight, procurement, and resource allocation.
Monitor organizational performance and recommend operational improvements.
Prepare reports and presentations for executive leadership and the Board of Directors.

Leadership:

Foster collaboration across departments and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, government agencies, funders, contractors, and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Project Management, Public Administration, Construction Management, Community Development, or a related field (master’s degree preferred).
Five or more years of progressively responsible management experience.
Experience managing housing development, construction, facilities, or community development projects.
Experience administering grant-funded programs and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Strong leadership, organizational, financial management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, project management software, and budget management systems.
Bilingual is desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent project management experience.
Experience working in nonprofit organizations, affordable housing, community development, or workforce development.
Knowledge of HUD, HOME, CDBG, LIHTC, or other federal and state housing programs.
Experience with grant compliance, contract administration, procurement, and vendor management.
Knowledge of workplace safety standards and facilities management best practices.
