Full Job Description

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Billing Manager to lead and oversee the billing operations for a national law firm. This role is responsible for managing the end-to-end legal billing process, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely invoice submission while providing leadership to a high-performing billing team. The Billing Manager will partner closely with attorneys, clients, and internal departments to streamline billing operations, improve financial performance, and support exceptional client service.

This position is based in Phoenix, Arizona, and offers the opportunity to contribute to a growing organization with a strong focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.

Essential Responsibilities

Lead, mentor, and develop a team of billing professionals, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
Oversee all aspects of the legal billing lifecycle, including invoice preparation, review, submission, adjustments, and collections support.
Ensure compliance with client-specific billing guidelines and e-billing requirements.
Manage electronic billing platforms and resolve billing rejections, deductions, and appeals.
Monitor billing metrics and key performance indicators to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and timely invoice processing.
Perform account reconciliations and analyze billing data to identify trends, discrepancies, and process improvement opportunities.
Partner with attorneys, finance, and operations teams to address billing issues and optimize revenue cycle management.
Develop, implement, and maintain billing policies, procedures, and internal controls.
Support month-end and year-end close activities related to billing and revenue recognition.
Prepare management reports and provide recommendations to improve operational effectiveness and financial outcomes.
Ensure high levels of customer service for both internal stakeholders and external clients.

QualificationsEducation

High School Diploma or GED required.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field preferred.

Experience

5+ years of progressive billing experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role.
Experience managing legal billing operations within a law firm, professional services organization, or legal outsourcing environment.
Strong understanding of e-billing processes, client billing guidelines, and revenue cycle management.
Experience leading teams and driving process improvements.

Technical Skills

Experience with legal billing platforms such as Aderant, Elite 3E, Legal Tracker, Tymetrix 360°, Onit, SimpleLegal, Brightflag, or similar systems.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
Familiarity with accounts receivable, invoice management, reconciliations, and financial analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience supporting large national or multi-office law firms.
Prior consulting, business process outsourcing (BPO), or shared services experience.
Experience implementing billing system enhancements or workflow automation initiatives.
Knowledge of legal industry billing standards and best practices.
