Job Title: Senior Estimator (Commercial Ground Up)

Location: Phoenix, AZ

Compensation: $120,000 – $170,000+ Base Salary + Bonus Potential

Tiello is partnered with a well-established General Contractor based in Phoenix, AZ, in their search for a Senior Estimator to lead preconstruction and estimating efforts across a diverse portfolio of commercial construction projects.

This organization has built a strong reputation for delivering high-quality work through strategic planning, operational excellence, and long-term client relationships. Their team is focused on collaboration, accountability, and delivering projects that align with both client goals and market conditions.

Role Summary

The Senior Estimator will play a critical leadership role within the preconstruction department, overseeing estimating efforts from conceptual budgeting through final pricing and project turnover.

This individual will work closely with Project Executives, operations teams, ownership, architects, engineers, and trade partners to develop accurate, competitive, and strategic estimates across all phases of design and construction.

The ideal candidate will bring strong commercial construction estimating experience, leadership capability, market awareness, and the ability to drive both process improvement and subcontractor engagement.

Job Responsibilities

Prepare and oversee conceptual, schematic, DD, and GMP estimates for commercial construction projects
Develop detailed system budgets, conceptual cost plans, and pricing narratives
Lead value engineering efforts and cost optimization strategies aligned with owner objectives
Analyze drawings, specifications, and project documents to ensure complete scope coverage
Ensure all estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with project goals and company standards
Lead subcontractor outreach, bid solicitation, and bid leveling processes
Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and industry partners
Evaluate subcontractor proposals for completeness, risk exposure, and pricing accuracy
Maintain awareness of local market conditions, labor trends, escalation factors, and material pricing
Establish and improve estimating standards, workflows, SOPs, and best practices across the department
Collaborate closely with operations, development, and design teams throughout preconstruction efforts
Participate in client meetings and presentations regarding budgets, cost drivers, and project feasibility
Support business development initiatives with conceptual budgets and early-stage feasibility studies
Maintain organized historical cost databases and estimating documentation
Assist with KPI tracking, reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications / Requirements

5+ years of estimating experience within commercial construction
Proven experience leading estimates on mid-to-large-scale projects
Strong understanding of negotiated work and/or design-build delivery methods
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred
Advanced proficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office Suite
Familiarity with AI tools and technology within preconstruction workflows is a plus
Strong knowledge of construction methods, materials, building systems, and market pricing
Ability to interpret and analyze drawings through all phases of design
Excellent communication, leadership, organizational, and client-facing skills
Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
