About the Company

Liberty Harbor is a growing real estate and property management company. We own and operate a mixed-use portfolio as well as operate a number of business interests across Restaurants, Marina, RV Park, Liquor Store, and Internet Service Provider. The operation runs lean which means the controller here has real authority and will see the direct impact of their decisions on the business.

About the role

We are looking for an experienced Accounting Controller to own the financial close, reporting, and controls environment for our property portfolio. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will manage the accounting team, drive the close, and ensure our Yardi-based workflows are accurate, documented, and audit-ready.

The right candidate will be very familiar with all facets of property accounting. Yardi Voyager is the system of record. Familiarity with Yardi will be required Day 1.

Responsibilities:

Monthly, quarterly, and annual close. Fully closed and on time
Yardi general ledger, property reporting, tenant ledgers, charge codes, and audit trails
Financial statement review: balance sheet, income statement, bank recs, AP/AR, accruals, and journal entries
Internal controls over rent posting, ledger adjustments, credits, reversals, vendor payments, and deposits
Executive reporting: cash flow, variance analysis, and property-level financials
Coordination with outside accountants, auditors, tax preparers, lenders, and vendors
Cross-functional collaboration with leasing, operations, legal, construction, and ownership
Team management: hiring, developing, and holding the accounting staff accountable
Process improvement: documentation, deadlines, and workflow standardization across the department

Requirements:

8–12+ years of accounting experience
3–5+ years as controller, assistant controller, or senior property accountant
Strong real estate / property management background (multifamily, commercial, or mixed-use)
Hands-on Yardi Voyager experience as the System of Record
Demonstrated team leadership
Strong Excel or Google Sheets
Clear communicator with executives and non-finance partners

Preferred

Experience cleaning up or optimizing Yardi reporting
Background in owner-operated real estate companies
Familiarity with Google Workspace

Job Type: Full-time
