Full Job Description

Position: Dutilh Preschool Teacher

Appointment Authority: Staff Parish Relations Committee

Staff Classification: Part Time - Hourly

Position Reports To: Dutilh Preschool Director

Term: 18-23 hours per week (Late August – May)

The Preschool Teacher provides support to the Dutilh Preschool by teaching superior academics and Christian faith to preschool age children. The teacher will develop a schedule in line with the curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and fits the needs of the children using guidelines provided by the Director. The Preschool Teacher is responsible for the classroom and the children assigned to the teacher.

Overall Responsibilities

· Four-Year-Old and Pre-K teachers will hold parent conferences and provide written evaluations midyear. Three-Year-Old teachers will hold parent conferences and provide written evaluations near the end of the school year.

· Maintain developmental records throughout the year. This will require constant informal and formal evaluations of children’s skills, not just a one-time evaluation period.

· Work closely in association with the rest of the staff.

· Inform the Director about needed equipment, supplies, and repairs. Request permission for any special purchases. Turn in reimbursement forms to the Director.

· Use positive discipline techniques and positive behavior management.

· Attend staff meetings, in-service days, and other events for professional development.

· Attend school-sponsored events.

· Supervise and advise the cooperating teacher aide.

· Provide assistant with detailed instructions (verbal or written), lists, and materials needed.

· All correspondence to parents must be approved by the Director before dispersed.

· Teachers will be asked to turn in lesson plans as determined by the Director.

· Teachers are to provide unit themes, overviews, concepts being addressed, and other needed information to the Director weekly so that the Director can communicate to families on a weekly and monthly basis.

Primary Responsibilities

· Submit monthly class calendar and include any special projects, dates or activities to the Director prior to start of that month. Also, submit any changes to these calendars.

· Send weekly lesson outlines/descriptions to the Director.

· Keep an open line of communication with the Director. Keep the Director aware of all situations in your classroom.

· Be in communication with families as often as possible with information about school but also to give positive and constructive feedback for families about their child.

· Put the children first! Be aware of the children at all times. Bend down to make eye contact with them. Refrain from talking about a child to your aide, another teacher, parent, or anyone else while the child is present. Respect the children’s feelings.

· Remember that no child may leave the room without telling a staff member.

· Be aware of the security system and, with your aide, make sure it is being utilized properly.

· Count the children every chance you get, watch doorways, be aware of who is washing hands or using the bathroom, especially during arrival, dismissal, and when changing classrooms.

· Never leave children unattended.

· When walking with a class of children, keep an adult at the front of the line and at the back of the line for safety purposes.

· During field trips, take a first aid kit and a class list with contact information. The children cannot leave the school property without parent and Director permission.

· Children can only be dismissed to the people listed on their Release form. There should be no exceptions. If a parent needs to add someone to the list, have the parent write a separate letter that will be kept in the child’s file. If someone other than the person who typically picks up a child is picking up at dismissal, make sure we have in writing that we can release the child to them, and they must show you their Driver’s License.

· Report all injuries to the parents and the Director. Record the injury and the treatment given on an injury report form. Parents must receive a copy, and a copy must be placed in the child’s file in the Director’s office.

· Read the parent handbook, know the school policies, and follow them.

· Be aware of allergies or other special needs within your classroom.

· Be confidential with all information shared. Do not discuss children or their needs with others outside of the school. Be aware of IEP needs and the confidentiality they hold. Discuss special needs children only with other IEP team members and the Director.

· Keep an open line of communication with parents.

· Organize parent volunteers as needed or advise the Director of your needs.

· Along with the Director, organize and plan field trips and special visitors.

· Organize parties, graduation, end-of-year celebrations, and other special events with the Director.

Qualifications

· Be an active, committed follower of Jesus Christ.

· Experience teaching preschool age children.

· Experience in developing a schedule and curriculum for preschool children.

· Ability to communicate and interact with other teachers, aides, the director and parents of preschool children.

· PA Act 33 and 34 clearances and FBI fingerprinting clearance.

Pay: From $18.00 per hour
