Full Job Description

Salary: $16 - $17 per hour; FT w/ benefits or PT availability

Job Summary:

Assistant Store Manager is responsible for assisting the Store Manager in the essential functions of the administration of company policies and procedures with employees in the retail store. Also responsible for the training and development of store employees. Upholds the mission and values of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul in the performance of duties.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

1. Assist with supervising and coordinating the activities of the employees; make recommendations to the Store Manager regarding measures to improve performance and efficiency. Help with daily operations concerning employee and customer issues and the needs of the store.

2. Assist in directing all store departments in the rotation of floor items, sorting processing, pricing, marketing, and waste removal.

3. Oversee procedures for handling conference clients with vouchers.

4. Assist the Store Manager in fostering a positive work environment for employees through incentives, training procedures, and motivational meetings.

5. Assist with training employees; assigning and directing work; providing input on employee performance, rewards, and disciplinary action; and serving as the first point of contact for employee complaints and problems.

6. Work with management to identify, plan and develop methods to increase sales and efficiency of store operations.

7. Enforce company policies and procedures; display a thorough and working knowledge of the operations manual.

8. In the absence of the Store Manager, the Assistant to the Store Manager will perform daily operation task such as reconciling cash drawers, making sure there is proper funds, making bank deposits, submitting bills, creating work schedules, reporting injuries, and perform other associated store operational matters.

9. Assist with overseeing the work of the Sales Associates in accordance with SVDP’s policies and applicable federal, state, and local laws.

10. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. High school diploma or general education degree (GED).

2. At least two (2) years progressive experience and/or training in a retail store with at least three months as a supervisor; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

3. Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Cognitive Abilities:

1. The ability to get along with others and work as a team player.

2. The ability to shift focus from one task to another, while prioritizing tasks as well.

The ability to remain calm in difficult situations.

The ability to adjust to differing noise levels because of the open setting environment.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license and appropriate insurance coverage.

Physical Demands:

The employee is often required to:

· stand when assisting customers or conversing with store personnel.

· walk throughout SVDP’s facilities.

· stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl to place items in or get items from low drawers, racks, or shelves.

· use hands to finger, handle, or feel to operate the cash register or telephone and to manipulate office equipment and store merchandise or supplies.

· lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, which is generally store merchandise.

· reach with hands and arms when stocking the store, assisting customers, or getting supplies, binders, and files.

The employee is occasionally required to:

· sit at a desk or conference table or when driving.

· Help donors to carry donations from their vehicles.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include:

· close vision, distance vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus when driving to the bank, external meetings, and other stores and when walking throughout the store, other SVdP facilities, banks, and external meeting places.

· close vision for cash register, computer, and paper detail work.

· color vision when creating or reviewing graphs and color-coded spreadsheets or documents.

· distance vision when leading or attending meetings and training sessions.
