Full Job Description

Summary/Objective Purpose of Position

The Bookkeeper is responsible for maintaining church finances and financial business processes. This includes processing weekly offerings, other income, tuition posting, and payment processing. Duties include purchasing, expense reimbursement, check request, petty cash, and journal entries for both church

Essential Functions

Preparation of monthly journal entries
Checks figures, postings and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy and proper codes
Assist with weekly tithes and offerings received via weekend services, mail, online, stock transfer, etc
Receive, review, record and pay bills and other expenses as directed
Plan for upcoming expenses and assist with cash flow as required to meet operational needs of the church
Establish and manage purchasing, expense reimbursement, petty cash, check request, and other financial business processes
Ensure payroll is funded each pay period and entered into QuickBooks
Monthly bank account reconciliations.
Assist with distribution of annual giving statements
Assist Senior Business Manager in developing an annual financial plan.
Complies with federal, state and company policies, procedures and regulations
Responsible for billing school families
Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Business Manager

Preferred Education and Experience

This position requires a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience as an accounting/finance person in a church or business environment. Possession of a BA/BS Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is preferred. (Extensive accounting/finance, in some cases, can be substituted.) The successful individual will also possess a working knowledge of QuickBooks (or other similar software applications), FACTS tuition management system, and be proficient in Microsoft Office (including Excel).

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical, office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
