Overview
National Manufacturer is seeking knowledgeable and dedicated Assistant Controller to join our team at our new office annex in Dallas, TX.
The Assistant Controller reports to the Corporate Controller and assumes a supporting strategic role in the overall management of the company. The Assistant Controller’s primary responsibility is to help maximize return on financial assets through established financial policies, procedures, controls, and reporting systems. Additionally, the Assistant Controller helps establish the culture of the organization and assists in identifying and developing the next generation of the company’s leaders. This position will be a key member of the Food Safety and Quality team and have responsibility for leading implementation and on-going program management/oversight on SQF certification.
Essential Job Functions
- Strong understanding of the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable and accounts receivable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits, cash receipts and account reconciliations.
- Experience in bank reconciliations of multiple accounts and high-volume activity with focus on accuracy and timeliness.
- Experience in general ledger account reconciliations to prepare weekly and monthly financial reports for management teams.
- Safeguard assets and ensure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits/reviews, internal controls and verification checks across all departments.
- Strong understanding of Payroll processes, regulations, reporting, general ledger recording and reconciliations. The assistant Controller will be the backup for the Payroll Clerk.
- Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
- Provide financial analysis evaluate company ventures or special projects, programs, capital expenditures, products costing, etc. when necessary.
- Work closely with Corporate Controller in the development and economic evaluation of various fringe benefit programs for staff and program components.
- Interface with customers, vendors, outside audit firms, banks and lessors, casualty/liability insurance agent(s), credit card companies, and collection agencies as necessary.
- Responsible for reporting issues related to Food Packaging safety or quality.
- Ensure maintenance of appropriate internal controls and financial procedures; ensure that staff practices all appropriate accounting procedures in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Develop strong trusting relationships across every level of company to gain support and achieve results.
- Prepare budgets as directed by establishing schedules; collecting, analyzing, and consolidating financial data; recommending plans.
- Assists the company in achieving budget objectives by scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; recommending / initiating corrective actions.
- Assists with tracking and communicating EBITDA measurements throughout the organization.
- Assists with establishing yearly objectives and meeting agendas, and selecting and engaging outside consultants (auditors, investment advisors) as required.
- Assists with development and evaluation of various cost savings programs.
- Assists with overseeing cash flow planning and availability of funds as needed.
- Generate “user friendly” reports to enable various individuals to evaluate profitability of individual customers.
- Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the company policies and applicable laws.
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Protect operations by keeping financial information and plans secured and confidential.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- 5+ Years of progressive accounting experience with a portion of it being in a supervisory role. Prior public accounting experience and/or experience in a Manufacturing environment a plus.
- Degree: Four-year undergraduate degree required; graduate degree preferred; CPA and/or MBA preferred.
- Experience in full cycle accounting; from transaction recording, account reconciliations, through financial report generation is highly desired.

Pay: $105,000.00 - $115,000.00 per year
