TITLE:

Purchasing Agent – DFW Division

DEPARTMENT:

Director of Purchasing, Dallas Division

LOCATION:

Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), TX – local candidates preferred

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:

POSITION SUMMARY

The Purchasing Agent supports the Director of Purchasing, Dallas Division with the day-to-day sourcing, purchasing, and permitting activities for Growth Homes' DFW operations. This position reports directly to the Director of Purchasing and plays a key role in keeping budgets, purchase orders, work orders, and permits accurate and moving on schedule.

This role carries meaningful responsibility for permitting: preparing and submitting permit packages, tracking applications through local municipalities and agencies, and following up to keep permit timelines aligned with construction schedules.

MarkSystems experience preferred: a large portion of this role's day-to-day work is data entry and administration within MarkSystems (ECI). Strong attention to detail and comfort with technology are essential.

The ideal candidate is based in the DFW area and brings an established local network of trade partners, suppliers, and municipal/permitting contacts that can be put to work immediately.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Support the Director of Purchasing in controlling, developing, and producing approved budgets and proformas with input from appropriate internal departments
Enter and maintain budgets, options, purchase orders, and work orders within MarkSystems with a high degree of accuracy — a core, daily part of this role
Prepare and submit building permit applications to DFW-area municipalities and agencies; track status and follow up to keep permits on schedule for construction starts
Negotiate and solicit the best price/value combination from suppliers and trade contractors; analyze cost comparisons across products, services, and contract terms
Develop and qualify new subcontractors and suppliers across the DFW market while maintaining and monitoring relationships with existing trade partners
Prepare quantity take-offs from working or design drawings for budgeting and bid purposes; manage and maintain take-offs within MarkSystems
Act as liaison between subcontractors, construction, marketing, sales, customer service, and land departments
Participate in review, development, and analysis of scopes of work aimed at quality control and standardization of materials, supplies, and services
Participate in site visits and work with construction team members to verify trade performance against scope of work/contract
Monitor and help resolve Variance Purchase Orders; analyze variance reports to identify and correct ongoing issues
Maintain accurate vendor, pricing, and product records within MarkSystems as market conditions, bids, and contracts change
Additional duties as assigned by the Director of Purchasing

WHAT YOU BRING

Bachelor's degree preferred, with 4+ years of related experience in residential construction, purchasing, or estimating; years of relevant experience may substitute for education
Experience with a homebuilder ERP/purchasing system is required; MarkSystems (ECI) experience is strongly preferred
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy with high-volume data entry; strong general proficiency with technology and purchasing software
Working knowledge of building permitting processes and requirements within the DFW area
Based in, or willing to relocate to, the DFW area, with an established local network of trade partners, suppliers, and municipal/permitting contacts
Solid understanding of generally accepted purchasing principles and practices, and working knowledge of homebuilding and construction materials
Understanding of Building Codes, National Electrical Code, OSHA guidelines, and other applicable building codes and practices
Excellent communication and negotiating skills; professional and ethical approach to people, situations, and issues
Excellent mathematical and analytical skills, with the ability to identify trends and produce accurate estimates
Extremely well-organized and flexible, with the ability to prioritize workloads, meet deadlines, and work well under pressure
Proficient in MS Office, particularly Excel

PREFERRED

Prior hands-on experience with ECI MarkSystems
Knowledge of BuildPro/SupplyPro or JD Edwards
Existing relationships with DFW-area municipal permitting offices and trade partners
