Full Job Description

Job Summary:
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Billing and Follow-up Sprecialists to join our team. The Medical Billing and Follow-up specialists will be responsible for accurately billing medical claims, ensuring timely reimbursement, and maintaining patient records. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of medical billing procedures, coding systems, and medical terminology.

Responsibilities:

- Prepare and submit accurate electronic and paper claims to insurance companies
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims, identifying and resolving billing discrepancies
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain necessary authorizations for procedures
- Maintain patient records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality of information
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to ensure accurate documentation and coding practices
- Stay updated on changes in coding regulations and reimbursement policies
- Contacting patients regarding outstanding balances -

The Billing & Follow-Up Representative reviews, researches, and processes claims in accordance with contracts and policies to determine the extent of liability and entitlement, as well as to adjudicate claims as appropriate.

The core responsibilities will include: processing claim forms; reviewing claims for complete information, correcting and completing forms as needed; accessing information and translating data into information acceptable to the claims processing system; and preparing claims for return to provider/subscriber if additional information in needed.

Additional follow-up responsibilities include: maintaining all appropriate claims files and following up on suspended claims; assisting, identifying, researching and resolving coordination of benefits, subrogation, and general inquiry issues, then communicating the results; and preparing formal history reviews.

Experience:
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in medical billing or related field
- Proficiency in medical billing software systems (e.g., Athena Practice, Advanced MD or Mod Med)

Knowledge of insurance and governmental programs, regulations and billing processes (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security Disability, Champus, Supplemental Security Income Disability, etc.), managed care contracts and coordination of benefits is strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, DRG, and ICD-9 coding systems
- Familiarity with medical office procedures and terminology
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in coding and billing processes
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
