District Executive

Position Overview

Since 1910, Scouting has helped mold the future leaders of this country by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun. Scouting America believes that helping youth puts us on a path towards a more conscientious, responsible, and productive society.

Today's professional Scouters are a diverse group of individuals sharing a dynamic career that offers independence, achievement, and stability. This is work that makes a difference, work that calls for continual learning and challenge, and work that offers solid compensation, benefits, and career advancement.

The District Executive will be responsible for managing and growing Scouting programs within an assigned geographic area by working closely with volunteers, community leaders, and business partners. This position requires a motivated, goal-oriented individual who is passionate about youth development and capable of multitasking in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

Volunteer Leadership & Development: Recruit, train, guide, and inspire a volunteer board of directors and other community and business leaders to support Scouting programs.
Membership Growth: Achieve progress towards membership recruitment and retention goals by extending programs to religious, civic, fraternal, educational, and other community-based organizations.
Program Support & Delivery: Ensure high-quality program delivery through volunteer training, resource support, and event management. Oversee achievement of volunteer training for respective roles.
Fundraising & Financial Management: Secure adequate financial support for programs in the assigned area. Recruit and support leadership for fundraising campaigns to meet financial goals. Achieve net income and participation objectives for camps and activities.
Marketing & Community Engagement: Promote Scouting programs by collaborating with the Marketing team for media support, social media outreach, and event promotions. Build relationships with schools, organizations, and the general community to increase awareness and participation.
Event Management & Program Development: Plan and execute key events, including training programs, outdoor activities, and recruitment campaigns. Identify opportunities for new programs to engage and inspire youth and volunteers.
Compliance & Safety: Ensure all programs adhere to national Scouting standards, including trained staff, safe program equipment, and sufficient facilities for events.
Technology & Administrative Support: Utilize and adapt to technology platforms for program management, communication, and reporting. Maintain accurate records and ensure timely communication with volunteers and stakeholders.

Desired Skills & Qualifications

Strong background in marketing, fundraising, sales, or program development is highly desired.
Nonprofit experience or a Scouting background is a plus but not required.
Excellent public speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to engage with diverse audiences and develop strong community partnerships.
Self-motivated with excellent time management, organizational, and leadership skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and adaptable to new software tools such as Blackpug, My.Scouting, Canva, and Mailchimp.
Ability to work varied hours, including evenings and weekends, as necessary to support program needs.
Willingness to travel for training at least once a year for one to two weeks.
Fluent in Spanish a plus

Requirements

Must be willing to accept and meet Scouting America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university (transcript required for employment).
Must be 21 years of age or older.

Compensation & Benefits

All councils are equal-opportunity employers. In addition to offering a competitive salary of $70,500-$73,000 annually, Professional Scouting provides a comprehensive benefits package that includes:
