Position is located in Oakland.

Under the general direction of the Supervising Tax Auditor, the Associate Tax Auditor (ATA) independently conducts audits that generally consist of retailers in the restaurant and cannabis industry and other business enterprises. The ATA conducts fraud /tax evasion audits and may testify in court to liabilities determined. The ATA makes audit appointments; meets with taxpayers and their representatives; explains audit findings; and prepares appropriate audit reports and written correspondence to taxpayers.

Travel may be required up to 50% of the time, which may include overnight travel.
This position is designated as a mobile worker position and will require an incumbent to spend the majority of their time(fifty percent or more) working at various locations other than their home or office in a single day (CMAP 1014).
The position requires the incumbent to travel at least ifty percent (50%) of the time, which includes overnight travel.

Position requires employees to be fingerprinted and successfully pass a background investigation.
This position is designated as a mobile worker position and will require an incumbent to spend the majority of their time (fifty percent or more) working at various locations other than their home or office in a single day (CMAP 1014).

Eligibility for Promotional Exams:

In addition to meeting the Minimum Qualifications for the Associate Tax Auditor, competition is limited to individuals who meet at least one of the following promotional examination criteria:

Have a permanent civil service appointment with CDTFA, or
Are current or former employees of the legislature for 2 or more years as defined in Government Code 18990, or
Are current or former non-elected exempt employees of the executive branch for 2 or more consecutive years as defined in Govt. Code 18992, or
Are persons retired from the United States military honorably discharged from active duty with a service disability or honorably discharged from active duty as defined in Government Code 18991. Applicants must provide a copy of discharge papers (DD 214) for verification purposes at the time of application.

Under certain circumstances other employees may be allowed to compete under provisions of Rules 234, 235 and 235.2. California Code of Regulations Rules 233, 234, 235.2 and 237 contain provisions regarding civil service status and eligibility for promotional examinations.
