Purpose
Duplantis Design Group, PC (DDG) is seeking a motivated, self-starting, Construction Inspector Representative for various projects in the Louisiana market. As a Construction Inspector representative, you will monitor the work of contractors and provide critical support and documentation services for several private and public sector projects. Additionally, you will be responsible for establishing DDG’s inspection program in the Louisiana market in coordination with the Program Managers.
Activities + Responsibilities
- Work collaboratively with engineers, construction crews, and project owners in a dynamic, attention-demanding environment.
- Observes activities critical to successful implementation of projects including earthwork, base course placement, paving and curb and gutter placement, installation of drainage and utilities, stormwater management, erosion and sediment control best management practices, etc.
- Document key project records including daily construction progress photographically and in writing, materials notebooks, as-built plans, quantity records, and schedules.
- Monitor contractor complains with contract plans and specifications.
- Monitor and document construction quantities on a daily basis.
- Monitor and report on performance of contractors to Engineer in Charge.
- Review and coordinate with contractor’s execution plan including temporary traffic control and project construction phasing.
- Coordinate witness of required municipal and agency inspections and witness required materials testing.
- Successful candidates will be encouraged and authorized to obtain certain ALDOT inspection and materials testing certifications, the costs for which will be reimbursable.
Preferred Skills/Abilities
- Degree in construction management, project management, or engineering preferred.
- 3 years minimum field construction experience preferred
- Working skill in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment.
- Highly effective written/verbal communication and organizational skills; experience reviewing and preparing field reports.
- Familiarity with commonly used surveying and construction terms.
- Strong commitment to safety, both personally and directed toward others
- Experience and ability to read and interpret plans and contract specifications.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive assigned and/or personal vehicles to perform required inspection activities.
- Experience providing construction inspection/observation/monitoring on ALDOT projects preferred.
Qualifications
- 3 years minimum field construction inspection experience, preferred.
- Experience providing construction inspection/observation/monitoring on ALDOT projects or other Department of Transportation agencies preferred.
- Working skills in operating computer equipment, software programs and field inspection equipment.
- Highly effective written/verbal communication and organizational skills; experience reviewing and preparing field reports.
- Familiarity with commonly used surveying and construction terms.
- Strong commitment to safety, both personally and directed toward others.
- Experience and ability to read and interpret plans and contract specifications.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to drive assigned and/or personal vehicles to perform required inspection activities.
- Valid and active certifications as an ADEM Qualified Credentialed Inspector, MUTCD Traffic Control, and Roadway Technician 1 preferred; ability to obtain these certifications in a timely manner is required.
Physical Requirements
- Requires sitting, standing, bending, and walking on uneven terrain and pavements, concrete, grass, dirt and gravel, in an outdoor environment, observing & inspecting construction projects.
- Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, climbing, reaching, bending, crawling, or stretching and be able to climb on a ladder.
- Requires ability to talk and hear and to communicate verbally and in writing.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
- Wearing employer provided personal protective equipment is regularly required.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.
- Will require travel.
- Exposure to characteristic construction site dangers.
- Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.
- Must be able to drive a company and/or personal vehicle to and from work sites.
