Full Job Description

Job Overview
Are you passionate about delivering exceptional food experiences and leading dynamic teams? We are seeking an energetic and motivated Deli Manager to oversee daily operations of our bustling deli department. In this role, you will be the driving force behind providing top-quality food service, managing staff, maintaining inventory, and ensuring a welcoming environment for our customers. Your leadership will inspire your team to excel in fast-paced, customer-focused settings while upholding the highest standards of food safety and quality. If you have a passion for healthy, delicious food and a strong background in kitchen work, we’d love to meet you. This position requires a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Lead and supervise deli staff to maintain consistent quality, speed, and service standards
Train team members on recipes, portioning, prep methods, and department procedures
Assign daily/weekly priorities and ensure tasks are completed accurately and on time
Maintain clear communication and consistent follow-through across shifts
Support team accountability and performance standards through coaching and feedback
Participate in interviewing and hiring deli staff based on department needs
Support training and performance expectations for new and existing staff
Assist with scheduling needs and coverage planning as assigned
Document and implement corrective actions when necessary in alignment with store policy
Partner with store leadership to ensure consistent expectations and department stability
Oversee daily production of smoothies, sandwiches, snacks, and grab-and-go items
Maintain consistent recipe execution, portion control, and product presentation
Maintain and update recipe standards, prep lists, and production routines
Ensure food is prepared safely, efficiently, and to quality standards
Monitor customer demand to adjust production and reduce waste
Maintain excellent sanitation standards across all deli equipment and work areas
Ensure proper food handling, storage temperatures, labeling, dating, and rotation
Uphold cleaning routines and compliance standards (health department readiness)
Train staff on food safety and ensure consistent daily execution
Address food safety concerns immediately and communicate to store leadership as needed
Maintain required food safety certifications (ex: ServSafe Food Protection Manager) and ensure department
compliance with all applicable food safety requirements
5) Buying, Inventory & Shrink Management
Order deli ingredients, supplies, and packaging to support production needs
Maintain accurate inventory levels while preventing overstock and unnecessary waste
Track product movement, high-use items, seasonal needs, and department trends
Monitor shrink and spoilage and adjust ordering and production routines accordingly
Maintain organized backstock, cooler storage, and prep station inventory flow
Liaise with Produce and Grocery to identify near-date items that can be repurposed safely into deli recipes
Develop strategies for reducing shrink through smoothies, salads, sandwiches, soups, or snack production (as
appropriate)
Maintain standards for quality and safety when utilizing near-date product
Communicate regularly with leadership and departments to support department efficiency and creative solutions
Maintain accurate pricing and signage for deli items and grab-and-go offerings
Ensure display areas are organized, appealing, and stocked for customer convenience
Evaluate product mix and introduce new items to keep offerings fresh and exciting
Support seasonal menus, promotions, and features to increase sales and customer interest
Identify opportunities to improve department flow, customer experience, and profitability

Qualifications

2+ years food service experience required (deli/restaurant/juice bar preferred)
Prior leadership or supervisory experience strongly preferred
Knowledge of food safety, sanitation, and safe handling practices
Experience with ordering, inventory management, waste reduction, and production planning
Strong time management and ability to lead a fast-paced department
Comfortable training staff and maintaining consistent recipes/standards
Strong customer service mindset and professional communication
Reliable, punctual, organized, and solution-focused
ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certification preferred

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and carrying throughout the shift
Ability to lift 40–50 lbs regularly
Ability to work in hot/cold environments (prep areas, coolers, dish areas)
Ability to use kitchen equipment safely (knives, blenders, slicers as applicable, etc.)

Food quality, recipe consistency, and portion control are maintained at all times
Ordering and inventory routines support strong production without excess waste
Staff are trained, supported, and held accountable to department standards
Pricing and displays are accurate, attractive, and drive customer purchases
Cross-department coordination reduces shrink and creates new opportunities for deli
