Position Summary
The Site Supervisor/Carpenter assists the Construction Manager in all aspects of residential construction while providing daily leadership and oversight of Habitat construction sites. This position serves as the primary on-site supervisor when assigned, ensuring construction activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved plans, building codes, Habitat standards, and organizational policies.
The Site Supervisor/Carpenter leads volunteers and partner families through construction activities, provides hands-on training, maintains a safe and organized work environment, and helps ensure each build is completed with quality workmanship and a positive volunteer experience.
Your Typical Day
- Arrive prepared at the construction site within the New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, and Oak Hill service areas.
- Open and prepare the job site for daily operations.
- Lead the daily work plan and assign construction tasks to volunteers and partner families.
- Provide safety orientation and monitor compliance with all job site safety requirements.
- Supervise construction activities to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to building plans.
- Work alongside volunteers performing carpentry and general construction tasks.
- Coordinate material usage and maintain an organized, clean, and safe job site.
- Communicate project progress, challenges, and material needs to the Construction Manager.
- Close and secure the job site at the end of each workday.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Construction & Site Supervision
- Supervise daily construction activities under the direction of the Construction Manager.
- Perform hands-on residential construction including framing, carpentry, siding, trim, drywall, flooring, roofing, and punch-out work as needed.
- Ensure all work complies with approved plans, permits, building codes, and Habitat quality standards.
- Inspect volunteer work and correct or coach construction tasks that do not meet acceptable standards.
- Maintain a safe, clean, and organized construction site.
- Conduct daily safety briefings and monitor compliance with OSHA guidelines and Habitat safety policies.
- Coordinate daily workflow to maximize productivity while accommodating volunteer skill levels.
- Assist with scheduling inspections, subcontractors, deliveries, and material staging as directed.
- Monitor inventory and communicate material shortages or equipment needs.
- Suggest improved construction practices, efficiencies, and cost-saving opportunities.
- Assist with site preparation, layout, and final punch-list completion.
- Complete homeowner warranty repairs as assigned.
Volunteer & Partner Family Leadership
- Serve as the primary on-site leader for volunteers and partner families during assigned workdays.
- Welcome volunteers and provide job site orientation.
- Train volunteers in proper construction techniques and safe tool operation.
- Match volunteers with tasks appropriate to their experience and abilities.
- Foster a respectful, encouraging, and team-oriented environment.
- Ensure volunteers and partner families have a meaningful and rewarding experience.
- Provide coaching, encouragement, and constructive feedback throughout the workday.
- Assist with training volunteer leaders and returning volunteers.
- Ensure communication with volunteers and partner families is respectful, accurate, and timely.
Site Administration
- Maintain daily job site records as requested.
- Document project progress and report issues to the Construction Manager.
- Track materials, equipment usage, and job site needs.
- Assist with maintaining construction tools and equipment.
- Help ensure projects remain on schedule by identifying and communicating potential delays.
Other Duties
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Construction Manager.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Experience in residential construction, with strong carpentry and framing skills preferred.
- Previous experience supervising construction projects, crews, or volunteers is preferred.
- Ability to read construction drawings and follow building plans.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to train and mentor volunteers with varying skill levels.
- Team-building experience is a plus.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with the Construction Manager.
- Demonstrates professionalism, patience, and a positive attitude.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to climb ladders and scaffolding.
- Frequent standing, walking, kneeling, bending, crouching, and reaching.
- Ability to safely operate hand tools and power tools.
- Willingness to work outdoors year-round in Florida weather conditions.

Additional Requirements
- Must pass a Criminal Background Check and Sexual Offender Check.
- Valid driver's license with reliable transportation.
- Ability to travel locally to construction sites throughout New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, and Oak Hill.
Compensation
Office Location: New Smyrna Beach, FL
Starting Pay: Beginning at $21.00 per hour, based on experience.
Travel Required: Local travel within the New Smyrna Beach, Edgewater, and Oak Hill service area.
