Program Coordinator (Food Pantry Specialist)
Department: Programs
Status: Full-Time, Hourly (40 hours/week)

Position Overview

Bremerton Foodline (BFL) seeks a compassionate, detail-oriented, organized, and community-centered Program Coordinator (Food Pantry Specialist) to support the daily operations of our Food Pantry. The Food Pantry includes, but is not limited to, Blossom - BFL’s diaper, wipes, formula, and menstruation distribution program, CSFP distribution - BFL’s Commodity Supplemental Food Program for elders, and training Food Pantry volunteers as well as maintaining task lists as it pertains to the Food Pantry. This position plays a key leadership role in ensuring dignified, efficient food distribution while fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment for clients and volunteers.

The Program Coordinator works collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and community partners to maintain operational excellence - creating and maintaining systems to ensure the Food Pantry is fully stocked and welcoming, uphold food safety standards, and advance BFL’s mission of reducing food insecurity in our community. They will work closely with the Special Programs Coordinator to ensure all programs have the support and resources they need for success.

Key Responsibilities

Food Pantry Operations

Oversee daily pantry operations to ensure efficient and dignified food distribution.
Leads the overall success of the following programs that are housed in the Food Pantry: Blossom, CSFP distribution.
Collaborate with the Operations Coordinator to manage inventory and maintain fully stocked shelves.
Monitor food quality, organization, and safety standards.

Client Services

Provide direct, respectful support to clients, assessing needs and connecting them with appropriate resources.
Assist with intake processes, including documentation and translation when needed.
Address unique client circumstances with empathy and discretion.
Foster a welcoming, culturally responsive, and inclusive environment that honors the dignity of every individual.

Volunteer Leadership

Train, supervise, and support volunteers in daily operations.
Develop daily task assignments in collaboration with the Operations Coordinator and Program Manager.
Promote cultural competency, sensitivity, and best practices in client engagement.
Model positive, solution-oriented leadership and teamwork.

Community Engagement

Represent BFL’s mission and values to donors and community partners.
Assist with donation pickups and deliveries in collaboration with staff leadership.
Strengthen relationships that enhance food access and community impact.

Facility & Safety Management

Maintain a clean, safe, and organized food bank environment.
Uphold sanitation standards and food safety protocols.
Ensure compliance with local, state, and organizational regulations.

Recordkeeping & Compliance

Support reporting and data collection efforts.
Ensure adherence to safety procedures and volunteer guidelines.
Maintain accurate client intake records and volunteer hour documentation.

Communication & Professional Conduct

Communicate clearly and professionally with clients, volunteers, staff, and partners.
Prevent and resolve conflicts with calm, respectful problem-solving.
Demonstrate systems thinking, adaptability, and a growth mindset.

Qualifications

Required

Availability for 40 hours per week
Ability to lift 25+ pounds repeatedly
High school diploma or GED
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Drive
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time-management abilities
Resourceful, proactive, and solution-oriented
Flexibility for Sundays and evenings - Client hours are Sunday through Wednesday, 11am to 6pm

Preferred

Fluency in Spanish and/or Mam
Experience operating warehouse equipment (e.g., pallet jack, commercial refrigeration) or willing to be trained
Knowledge of food safety standards and regulations
College degree or equivalent experience
