Position Summary
The Inside Sales & Applications Support Specialist supports sales activities across Intelligent Weighing Technology (IWT) and Streamline, working with customers, dealer partners, outside sales, and internal operations.
This is a technical, hands-on commercial role designed for someone interested in developing a broad understanding of our products, customers, applications, and overall business.
The primary responsibility of the position is inside sales and applications support: responding to inquiries, preparing quotations, helping customers select the correct equipment, supporting our dealer network, following up on opportunities, and gradually taking ownership of sales accounts and projects.
Because we operate with a relatively small and collaborative team, this position will also have an active supporting role in warehouse and operational activities when needed. We believe this exposure is valuable rather than simply supplemental. Handling products, preparing shipments, receiving inventory, and seeing equipment move from purchase order through delivery provides a much stronger understanding of the products we sell and how the company operates.
The goal is to develop someone who understands our business from the top down—from the initial customer application and sales conversation through ordering, inventory, fulfillment, shipment, installation, and long-term customer support.
Primary Responsibilities Inside Sales & Customer Support
- Respond to inbound customer and dealer inquiries by phone and email.
- Identify customer requirements and recommend appropriate products and configurations.
- Prepare accurate quotations for weighing equipment, laboratory instrumentation, industrial systems, and related products.
- Follow up on open quotations, leads, and customer opportunities.
- Assist customers with product selection, specifications, options, accessories, and basic application questions.
- Develop the technical knowledge necessary to match products to customer applications.
- Support both Intelligent Weighing Technology and Streamline sales activities.
- Work closely with outside sales on larger projects and opportunities.
- Prepare quotations and supporting information for opportunities generated by outside sales.
- Gradually take ownership of smaller inbound sales opportunities as product knowledge develops.
- Build and maintain relationships with existing customers and dealer partners.
- Proactively communicate with IWT dealers to strengthen relationships and identify opportunities.
- Provide particular support to the continued development of the Precisa Gold dealer program.
- Participate in Teams calls, phone discussions, and application reviews with dealers and end users.
- Develop the ability to manage opportunities from initial inquiry through quotation, follow-up, order, and delivery.
Applications & Product Support
- Develop detailed working knowledge of precision balances, industrial weighing equipment, laboratory instrumentation, and related products.
- Learn how customer applications influence product selection and configuration.
- Review specifications and technical documentation to identify appropriate solutions.
- Assist with basic application troubleshooting and product questions.
- Work directly with senior sales and technical staff on more complicated applications.
- Communicate with manufacturers and suppliers when additional technical information is required.
- Continue developing product expertise with the goal of independently handling increasingly complex applications.
Order Processing & Administration
- Enter and process customer orders accurately.
- Maintain accurate quote, customer, and opportunity information within company ERP and CRM systems.
- Assist with end-of-day invoicing and other basic administrative functions.
- Review orders for pricing, product configuration, shipping requirements, and completeness.
- Coordinate with warehouse staff regarding incoming and outgoing customer orders.
- Help resolve order, inventory, shipping, or documentation issues.
- Maintain organized records and clear internal communication regarding active projects and customer requirements.
- Coordination of returns (RMA's) as needed - limited quarterly volume
Warehouse & Operations Support
This position is not primarily a warehouse position, but warehouse participation is an intentional part of the role and company culture.
The Inside Sales & Applications Support Specialist will be expected to assist with warehouse operations periodically, particularly when staffing levels, incoming shipments, or business volume require additional support.
Responsibilities may include:
- Packing and preparing your own customer orders for shipment when the regular warehouse team member is unavailable.
- Assisting with picking, packing, labeling, and shipment preparation during periods of high order volume.
- Helping receive and organize incoming inventory.
- Assisting with unloading incoming containers approximately 6–8 times per year.
- Helping inspect, count, organize, and put away products received in larger shipments.
- Assisting with basic inventory organization and product identification.
- Helping the operations team during unusually busy periods or when additional coverage is needed.
- Becoming familiar with how products are packaged, configured, stored, shipped, and handled.
- Maintaining an organized and safe working environment while assisting with warehouse activities.
Reasonable physical capability is therefore required for the position, including the ability to spend portions of the workday standing, moving throughout the facility, handling packages, and assisting with routine warehouse activities. Appropriate equipment and team assistance will be used for heavier products and shipments.
Why Warehouse Exposure Is Part of the Role
We view warehouse and operational involvement as an important component of technical sales training.
Someone selling a technical product should understand more than the model number and price. They should know what the product looks like, how it is packaged, which accessories are included, how components fit together, how products arrive from manufacturers, and what happens after a customer places an order.
Working periodically in operations helps develop:
- Hands-on product familiarity.
- Better understanding of product sizes, construction, accessories, and configurations.
- Greater awareness of inventory and availability.
- Better understanding of shipping and fulfillment requirements.
- Stronger communication between sales and operations.
- A more complete understanding of the customer experience.
- Greater appreciation for how each department contributes to the success of the company.
As a small organization, we also expect team members to be willing to step outside their primary function when circumstances require it. The expectation is not that the inside salesperson becomes a full-time warehouse employee, but that they are willing and able to jump in, solve problems, and help the team when needed.
Training & Development
The technical nature of our industry requires a meaningful training period.
During the first 12–24 months, the employee will work closely with experienced members of the company to develop knowledge of:
- Precision balances and weighing technology.
- Industrial weighing systems.
- Laboratory instrumentation.
- Product configuration and accessories.
- Customer applications.
- Dealer and distribution sales.
- Quotation and pricing processes.
- ERP and CRM systems.
- Order processing.
- Inventory and fulfillment.
- Manufacturer relationships.
- Technical sales communication.
- Customer and dealer relationship management.
Training will include a combination of formal product education, day-to-day sales activity, application discussions, order processing, warehouse exposure, manufacturer training, and practical experience.
By physically handling the equipment as well as selling it, the employee should develop a more complete understanding of the products and become a more effective technical salesperson.
Travel & Field Experience
As experience develops, occasional travel will be expected.
This may include:
- Dealer visits.
- Customer visits.
- Manufacturer training.
- Trade shows.
- Industry events.
- Traveling with outside sales to observe and eventually participate in customer and dealer meetings.
Travel during the first several years is expected to be limited, generally consisting of a handful of trips annually.
Skills & Qualifications
We are looking for someone who is dependable, technically curious, organized, and comfortable communicating with customers.
The ideal candidate will have:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Comfort communicating with customers by phone, email, and video call.
- An ability and willingness to learn technical products.
- Good general computer skills.
- Ability to manage multiple inquiries, quotations, and projects simultaneously.
- Strong follow-through.
- Ability to work independently while also functioning as part of a small team.
- Willingness to assist outside of their primary responsibilities when the company needs additional support.
- Comfort working in both an office and warehouse environment.
- Interest in technical sales, laboratory equipment, industrial equipment, engineering products, or scientific instrumentation.
Previous experience in inside sales, technical sales, customer service, distribution, laboratory equipment, industrial equipment, instrumentation, or a related field is helpful but not required.
We are willing to invest significant time in training the right person.
Work Environment & Schedule
This is primarily an office-based position with regular interaction between sales, administration, and warehouse operations.
The normal schedule is Monday through Friday, generally 8:00 AM to 4:00/5:00 PM, with some flexibility depending on workload and company needs.
Long-Term Role Development
This position is intended to develop over time.
During the first year, the emphasis will be on product knowledge, company systems, customer communication, quotation accuracy, applications training, and understanding company operations.
During the second year, the employee should begin independently managing smaller sales opportunities while collaborating with senior sales staff on larger or more technical projects.
By the third year and beyond, the goal is for the employee to operate as a knowledgeable technical inside salesperson capable of independently managing customers, dealer relationships, applications, quotations, and meaningful revenue opportunities.
Longer term, the position may develop toward areas including:
- Dealer sales.
- Technical inside sales.
- Laboratory instrumentation sales.
- Industrial sales.
- Specialized high-margin product sales.
- Key account management.
- Sales management.
- Outside technical sales.
The ultimate direction will depend on the employee's strengths, interests, performance, and opportunities within the company.
Our Approach
We are looking for someone who wants to understand the entire business rather than operate within a narrow job description.
On one day, that may mean helping a customer determine the correct balance for an application. On another, it may mean building a quotation with outside sales, processing an order, packing that same order for shipment because someone is out, or helping the team unload and organize a container of new inventory.
Those experiences are connected.
Our objective is to develop someone who understands what we sell, why customers buy it, how we configure it, where it comes from, how we deliver it, and how each part of the company works together.
That broad understanding ultimately creates a stronger salesperson and a stronger member of the team.
