The Geismar Chemical site is in the process of hiring experience operators for September 2026.
As a Process Technician/Operator, you will be responsible for monitoring, controlling and conducting activities that pertain to unit operation and taking corrective action when necessary to ensure that all unit conditions and operations are in compliance with Geismar’s safety, environmental, and operating policies and procedures.
What you’ll be doing
Typical duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
You will participate in the development and performance of assigned group tasks
Communicate with engineers, maintenance technicians and other team members to assist in identifying maintenance issues and planning and scheduling maintenance activities
Ensure strict compliance with Geismar’s safety policies and procedures, taking immediate corrective action in the event a potential issue or unsafe behavior is observed
Ensure proper shift turnover by providing effective written and oral communications to the relieving shift and technician that cover routine and nonroutine issues, problems faced, unit operating conditions, etc.
Monitor and accurately recording temperatures, pressures and rates of flow for upward or downward trends
You will maintain good communications with other team members and with other facility teams (Utilities, Logistics, etc.)
Ensure that operations are within environmental requirements
Perform required preventative maintenance and assist in troubleshooting potential issues and give assistance to others when unit problems occur
Make sure to document efforts in accordance with policies and procedures
Properly use personal computers for meeting daily performance expectations and accessing plant and unit information and procedures
Personal accountability for meeting Geismar’s standards of continuous personal and professional development
Participate in training and respond to emergency situations as required
Comply with all operating policies and procedures
Ensure that workstations and the work location is clean and free of hazards
Other responsibilities as assigned
What we need from you
Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
Must be at least 18 years of age
Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience as a Process Operator within the Oil, Gas, or Chemical industry preferred
Must have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent
Associate of Applied Science degree in Process Technology is beneficial but not a requirement
Must currently hold or be able to qualify to receive a Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card. Note, information regarding TWIC qualification standards may be found at https://www.tsa.gov/for-industry/twic
Must be able to read, speak, and communicate effectively in order to understand processes and communicate with colleagues and customers
Must demonstrate a competency at using a process computer interface to manipulate and control an operating process unit
Formal education and/or training related to production operations, or a related skill area is preferred
Emergency Response and/or Fire Fighting training, experience, and/or certification is preferred
Must possess and maintain a current, valid license to operate a motor vehicle in the United States
Willingness to take and achieve satisfactory results on Shell’s pre-employment testing battery

What we offer
The rate for this position is $39.37 - $49.58. Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, and internal equity.
For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave for birthing parents, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.
Additionally, employees are eligible for short-term disability leave for up to 26 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay as well as Long-Term Disability insurance. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
