Full Job Description

The Early Childhood Education Department seeks a faculty member to teach and support undergraduate and graduate programs in Early Childhood Education (PreK–Grade 3). The successful candidate will teach early childhood methods and clinical courses in both in-person and hybrid formats, supervise teacher candidates in clinical field placements, and advise undergraduate and graduate students. The faculty member will contribute to program coordination, curriculum development, and accreditation processes, including serving as the program’s liaison for accreditation and compliance reporting.

Additional responsibilities include engaging in practitioner-focused research and scholarly activity, participating in departmental and college governance, and fostering partnerships with local schools and educational organizations. The successful candidate will also contribute to program recruitment, student retention, and the promotion of an equitable, collaborative, and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Duties

Teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses in early childhood education in in-person and hybrid modalities.
Supervise teacher candidates in PreK–Grade 3 clinical placements, including student teaching and internships.
Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students on program requirements, course sequencing, and professional goals.
Participate in departmental meetings, departmental and college-wide committees, and college-wide governance as appropriate.
Actively participate in program recruitment and student retention and completion work. Promote collegiality, collaboration, and an equitable and inclusive learning environment.
Serve as the program’s primary accreditation liaison, coordinating all activities related to initial accreditation, reaffirmation, or compliance reporting with RIDE.

Occasional Duties

Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair, Educational Studies Department.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Strong oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, clinical partners, and students.
Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive pedagogy.
Ability to manage multiple responsibilities including teaching, advising, coordination, and scholarship.
Proficiency with standard academic technology tools and learning management systems.

Required Qualifications

Education:

Earned master’s degree in Early Childhood Education or a closely related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered, with degree completion required prior to start date.

Experience:

2-3 years of teaching experience in PreK–Grade 3 classroom settings.

Preferred Qualifications

Doctorate (Ph.D. or Ed.D.) in Early Childhood Education.
Teaching experience at the college or university level in early childhood education or teacher preparation
Experience supervising student teachers or teacher candidates in clinical placements
Record of scholarly publication, grant activity, or funded research
Experience with hybrid, online, or technology-enhanced instruction
Familiarity with early childhood education standards (e.g., NAEYC, RI state licensing and certification requirements)

Environmental Conditions

This position involves teaching and instruction in traditional classroom settings and hybrid/online environments. Clinical supervision may require travel to partner school sites. Standard office environment for advising, scholarship, and administrative responsibilities.
