JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: School Nutrition Aide

Department: Nutrition Services

Reports To: Director of Nutrition Services

Salary Range: $20.00 hour

Position Type: Non-Exempt

Schedule: Approximately 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, following the PSAS school calendar (10-month position)

All employment at PSAS is under the PERA retirement plan. By accepting employment at PSAS you agree to participate in automatic payroll deposit and abide by all policies and procedures put forth by the administration of PSAS.

MAJOR FUNCTION or "POSITION SUMMARY":

Pueblo School for Arts and Sciences is seeking a dependable, positive, and student-focused School Nutrition Aide to join our growing Nutrition Services Department. This position plays an important role in supporting the National School Lunch Program by assisting with meal service, maintaining a clean and safe cafeteria, and providing exceptional customer service to students. Successful candidates enjoy working with children, value teamwork, and take pride in creating a welcoming dining environment that supports student health and learning.

This position offers an opportunity to become part of a growing Nutrition Services Department dedicated to providing high-quality, nutritious meals and exceptional service to every PSAS student.

"ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES":

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Assist with the daily operation of the National School Lunch Program.
Prepare the cafeteria and serving areas prior to the lunch service.
Receive, unload, transport, stock, and organize food, milk, and supplies for daily meal service.
Assist with setting up and replenishing serving lines throughout meal service.
Welcome and assist students during meal service with a friendly, respectful, and professional attitude.
Promote a safe, orderly, and positive cafeteria environment.
Clean and sanitize cafeteria tables, serving equipment, and food contact surfaces between meal periods.
Sweep, mop, and maintain cleanliness throughout the cafeteria and serving areas.
Restock milk coolers, condiments, utensils, napkins, and serving supplies as needed.
Follow all USDA, Colorado Department of Education, local health department, and PSAS food safety and sanitation requirements.
Properly handle, use, and store cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety regulations and district procedures.
Work collaboratively with Nutrition Services staff, school administration, teachers, and other support staff.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism when working with students and staff.
Participate in required Colorado Department of Education School Nutrition Program trainings, whether completed online or in person.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Nutrition Services or school administration.

Other duties assigned by the Director, Principal, or Business Administration.

Physical Demands of Position:

To perform this position successfully, an employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.

The employee must be able to:

Stand and walk for extended periods throughout the workday.
Frequently bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, and reach.
Lift and carry up to 40 pounds on a regular basis.
Push and pull loaded carts and food service equipment.
Frequently climb and descend stairs while transporting food, milk, supplies, and equipment between storage areas and the cafeteria located on the lower level of the building.
Work in varying temperatures, including refrigerators and freezers when stocking food.
Perform repetitive motions involving lifting, carrying, cleaning, and serving food.
Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment while working in a fast-paced setting.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

MINIMUM REQUIRED:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Ability to successfully pass all required background checks.
Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Ability to work effectively with children, staff, and families.
Strong communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

PREFERRED:

Previous experience in school nutrition, food service, or customer service.
CPR and First Aid Certification.
Experience working in a school environment.

PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Employees in this position are required to successfully complete all annual training required by the Colorado Department of Education School Nutrition Programs and the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).

Training may be completed online, in person, or through network sponsored professional development opportunities. Continued employment is contingent upon maintaining required training compliance.
