Shop Coordinator / Fabrication Operations Coordinator

Vision Mechanical –

Vision Mechanical is seeking a highly organized, detail-oriented, and production-minded Shop Coordinator to support the daily operations of our mechanical and sheet metal fabrication departments. This position is intended to serve as a central coordination role between fabrication personnel, logistics, project management, field operations, and company leadership.

The Shop Coordinator will assist in measuring production input and output, supporting fabrication workflow, improving accountability, assisting with employee time tracking, coordinating material requisitions and inventory outflows, supporting daily safety efforts, and helping facilitate communication between project managers and the fabrication shop.

This role is intended to help create structure, measurable production data, urgency, accountability, and fluid communication inside a fast-paced construction and fabrication environment.

Core Responsibilities

Fabrication Production Coordination

Assist in tracking and measuring daily fabrication production activities for sheet metal, piping, and mechanical fabrication.
Monitor fabrication input versus output to help leadership understand production flow, labor utilization, bottlenecks, and completion forecasting.
Assist with tracking:
Pounds of sheet metal fabricated
Linear feet of piping fabricated
Assemblies completed
Prefabrication progress
Material consumption rates
Shop throughput and workflow
Support production reporting and fabrication analytics utilizing Build Centrix (on the job training), spreadsheets, barcode systems, scanners, tablets, or other software systems adopted by Vision Mechanical.
Help maintain fabrication status boards, production logs, and workflow schedules.

Daily Safety Coordination

Participate in and help facilitate daily safety briefings and stretch-and-flex activities.
Assist shop leadership in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe fabrication environment.
Help document safety observations, near misses, incidents, equipment concerns, and corrective actions.
Monitor compliance with company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and safe machine operation practices.
Assist with maintaining OSHA-related documentation and safety records as directed.

Material Requisitions & Inventory Flow

Coordinate material requisitions between project managers, fabrication personnel, logistics, warehouse operations, and purchasing.
Assist in tracking incoming and outgoing material for fabrication operations.
Help ensure material is properly tagged, staged, scanned, inventoried, and routed to fabrication or field installation.
Assist with maintaining organized inventory control systems and material tracking processes.
Support implementation and maintenance of barcode scanning systems and fabrication inventory technologies.

Employee Time & Workforce Accountability

Monitor daily employee time reporting for fabrication personnel.
Assist supervisors in verifying labor coding, phase coding, and job allocations.
Help identify missing, inaccurate, or inconsistent time reporting.
Assist leadership with labor tracking metrics and workforce accountability.
Support workforce scheduling coordination and manpower planning.

Project Management & Shop Interface

Serve as a communication bridge between project managers, shop fabrication personnel, logistics staff, and field operations.
Help prioritize fabrication activities based on project schedules, field demands, manpower availability, and material status.
Coordinate fabrication requests, drawing distribution, revisions, and workflow updates.
Help maintain urgency and responsiveness to project needs while supporting orderly shop operations.

Data Input & Training Support

Assist with data entry and documentation related to fabrication processes, production tracking, inventory systems, and project workflows.
Support on-the-job training initiatives involving fabrication reporting systems, scanning systems, tracking software, and operational procedures.
Help improve consistency and accuracy of shop data collection.
Assist in developing repeatable shop procedures and operational standards.

Desired Qualifications

Strong organizational and communication skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced construction and fabrication environment.
Basic understanding of sheet metal fabrication, mechanical piping, plumbing, or commercial construction operations preferred.
Comfortable working with computers, tablets, spreadsheets, scanners, and production software systems.
Ability to multitask and maintain accountability across multiple projects and fabrication activities.
Strong sense of urgency, teamwork, and follow-through.
Willingness to learn and support evolving construction technologies and fabrication processes.

Pay: $20.00 - $26.00 per hour
