Position Summary
The District Executive provides professional leadership to the Southeast Region by partnering with volunteers, community organizations, schools, faithbased institutions, businesses, and civic leaders to grow and strengthen Scouting. The position is accountable for membership growth and retention, volunteer development, fundraising, program support, and quality service to units and families.
Key Responsibilities
- Build productive relationships with the district committee, commissioners, unit leaders, community partners, and business leaders; recruit, train, guide, and inspire volunteers to achieve district objectives.
- Develop collaborative relationships that expand Scouting through schools, faith-based organizations, civic groups, and other community-based organizations.
- Meet measurable goals for membership recruitment, retention, new-unit development, volunteer engagement, and program participation.
- Secure financial support, recruit volunteer leadership for fundraising campaigns, and achieve participation and net-income objectives for assigned camps, activities, and special events.
- Support units through timely communication, leader meetings, training opportunities, activities, and regular follow-up.
- Represent Scouting America and the Puerto Rico Council professionally and clearly communicate the mission, goals, and value of Scouting to the public.
- Manage priorities, budgets, plans, records, and reporting with a high degree of organization, accountability, and ethical judgment.
- Work a flexible schedule, including frequent evening and weekend responsibilities, as needed to achieve district and Council objectives.
Desired Skills and Experience
- Strong relationship-building, communication, public-speaking, and presentation skills.
- Background in marketing, fundraising, sales, nonprofit management, community engagement, or program development is highly desirable.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse audiences and build trust with volunteers, families, donors, and community partners.
- Self-motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, creative, and results-oriented.
- Strong organizational, time-management, budgeting, planning, and follow-through skills, with a commitment to high ethical and professional standards.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. An official transcript showing the degree conferred is required for employment.
- At least 21 years of age, unless prohibited by applicable law.
- Willingness to accept and meet Scouting America's leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
- Ability to work varied hours, including frequent evening and weekend responsibilities, and to travel for training at least once a year for one to two weeks.
- Ability to successfully complete criminal, reference, and motor-vehicle background checks.
- A Scouting background is helpful but is not required.
Compensation and Benefits
The salary range is $30,000 to $45,000, depending on qualifications and experience. In addition, professional Scouting offers a benefits package valued at more than $15,000 annually, including major medical and prescription coverage; dental and vision insurance; life insurance; short- and long-term disability coverage; accidental death coverage; a defined-contribution retirement plan; generous paid time off and holiday observances; and reimbursement of authorized and approved business expenses, including phone and mileage.
