Job Summary

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Peer Support Specialist to join our dynamic behavioral health team. In this vital role, you will serve as a compassionate advocate and mentor for individuals navigating mental health challenges, substance use disorders, and co-occurring conditions. Your lived experience and recovery journey will empower clients to achieve their personal goals, foster hope, and build resilience. This paid position offers an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of diverse communities through peer-led support, crisis intervention, and recovery advocacy.

Duties

Provide peer support and mentorship to clients experiencing mental health conditions, substance use issues, or co-occurring disorders
Share personal recovery experiences to inspire hope and motivate clients toward positive change
Assist clients in developing coping strategies using harm reduction techniques and motivational interviewing
Conduct crisis management and intervention when clients are in distress or experiencing emergencies
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop individualized recovery plans and support strategies
Maintain accurate documentation of client interactions within Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems while respecting confidentiality standards
Advocate for client needs within culturally diverse communities, ensuring respectful and inclusive support services

Requirements

Lived experience with mental health conditions, substance use disorders, or co-occurring disorders, with the ability to share recovery stories authentically
Knowledge of behavioral health principles, addiction counseling, harm reduction, and crisis intervention techniques
Experience working with culturally diverse populations and understanding cultural sensitivities in mental health support
Strong communication skills for client engagement, client advocacy, and team collaboration
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of client information in accordance with privacy laws and organizational policies
Skills in motivational interviewing, social work practices, mentoring, and client-centered approaches
Familiarity with Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems for documentation purposes
